If you work from home, then chances are you've only got limited space for your home office. With all of the furniture and storage needs that a home office requires, it's no wonder that home office spaces can become crowded. Avoid the dysfunction that a crowded home office space brings by reading up on these tips on how to get more space out of your home office.

STEP 2:

Downsize. Your home office may need more space because the furniture in it is too large. You can solve this problem by getting rid of bulky and oversized office furniture. Swap it for furniture that still meets your needs, but doesn't take up so much of your home office space.

STEP 3:

Keep only what you need. Home offices tend to drown in files and binders after a while. You need to ask yourself if you really need to have everything in your home office that's currently in there. You can likely get a lot more space out of your home office by doing a little bit of spring cleaning. Purge any old or outdated files. Store files and rarely used books in a space outside of your home office (like your attic or basement space.) You'll realize that you have a lot more space in your home office when you pare it down to include only those things necessary to run your home business.

STEP 4:

Take advantage of unused wall space. Wall space can be your best friend when it comes to getting the most out of your home office space. The key is to "think up!" Look at ways that you can move the contents of your office upward. Maybe you can put up floor-to-ceiling shelving and replace your two little bookshelves. Take up half the floor space, but gain twice the storage space by building your shelves higher. You can also put a cork board or a bulletin board on your home office wall to help you organize and store small things in your office. This will help you stay organized and get little incidental bits of clutter off your desk and onto the unused potential of your wall. Do some creative thinking about ways you can redesign your home office, and you'll definitely be able to get the most out of your small home office space.
