Practical nursing can also be taken up in the nurse practitioner education. Health care professionals generally have stable careers with better pay and privileges compared to other types of workers. Unemployment may be at its peak now, but the health industry remains highly demanded as ever. This is why nurses, doctors and others in the field are not worried about the crisis.

The first step in starting an online nursing degree is to find an accredited school. Accreditation is a school's badge of quality education. Once you have enrolled in a good school, you can be assured that you are halfway to your dream. Now, you must meet the requirements set. There are hospital-based schools that only admit graduates from related courses like science or biology to enroll, but regular schools only need your high school diploma or GED to begin training.

You have to take note that various types of nursing degrees require different schools. You have to choose one of these courses to determine which nursing school you will enroll in. The professional nursing practice requires a degree of a BS in Nursing, which takes 4 years to finish. Meanwhile, an Associate Degree for Practical Nursing only needs 2 years of training. This course is usually just a stepping stone to the former. The third type is the diploma course, which takes 2-3 years to finish. If you want no hassles, the best option would be to go straight to the BSN degree. Once you finish this course, you can fill additional course hours for your internship. After graduating, you could take the RN Licensure Exam (NCLEX) for certification.

A Nursing degree will take the student anywhere. Nursing graduates can work in hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, public health departments, schools and private residences. The career is great because it's not rigid. Unlike most employees who have fixed 9 to 5 work shifts, a nurse can choose her shift to make it suit her lifestyle.
