Honeycomb blinds are excellent shades that should provide you with years of quality service. They do a great job of filtering light and are wonderful insulators as well. If you are at all handy, you will also find them very easy to install. The nice thing about installing honeycomb blinds is that they are generally custom made for your window application. They come in two styles, inside or outside mount, but the installation process is basically the same.

Tools:

  • Tape measure
  • Drill with a 1/16" or 3/32 bit for drilling pilot holes
  • Screwdriver
Directions:
  1. The first thing you should do is unpack your blinds and look through the installation instructions. Each blind should have two to four installation brackets. Figure out how your installation brackets attach to the headrail of the shades. Typically they snap into a groove or mounting hole. Check the measurements to see how far apart the mounting brackets should be and write those measurements down you are going to want those measurements in a moment.
  2. If you are installing your honeycomb blinds inside your window frame, then the next step is to determine how far back in the window you want them to be. Make sure the blind will fit inside your window jamb and look nice, but also make sure that your new honeycomb blinds will clear any handles or cranks on your window.
  3. Position your installation bracket in the window frame, double check your measurements (you wrote them down, remember?) and then use a pencil to mark the holes. Using your drill, drill small pilot holes for the screws on your marks. Don't skip this step. If you fail to drill pilot holes, you can split the wood extension jambs. Then, with your screwdriver, drive the screws through the holes and hang the installation bracket. Follow the same procedure with the other brackets.
  4. Now carefully lift your Honeycomb blinds to snap them into the installation brackets. You will have to tilt the headrail to engage the back first, and then snap the front into the bracket. That's all there is to it.
  5. If you are installing your blinds on the outside of the window frame, the steps are the same, but your installation bracket will be screwed to the outside of the window frame. Make sure you don't mount your bracket through the trim or molding unless you're sure it provides a nice flat surface for you to mount your bracket on.
