Roller blinds were very uncommon for quite a while. However, with our busy lives, these blinds are much easier to install and maintain than mini-blinds or drapes. They also tend to block out more light and provide more privacy. Therefore, it is no surprise that more and more people want to learn how to install roller blinds.
- Your first step is to measure your window and purchase all of the necessary components. Make sure that the roller blind you want to install is the correct size for your window. You will also want to make sure you have appropriate fasteners. The ones that come with the roller blinds will likely be for installation to wood. If you are going to install roller blinds on another type of window frame, such as metal, you will need to purchase the appropriate screws or nails.
- Gather all of your materials, the roller blinds, and your tools by the window. You will need the roller blinds, the hardware for hanging them, a pencil, a drill or screw gun, and a carpenter's level.
- Extend the roller blinds fully, and hold them in the proper position to be hung. Use your pencil to mark the position for the brackets on each side. Use the carpenter's level to ensure that you have marked them evenly.
- Next you will need to mark the holes for the screws or nails. Hold the brackets used to install roller blinds at the line you marked earlier. Place a pencil mark in each hole of the bracket for each side of the window frame. Check again with the carpenter's level to ensure you marked everything correctly. If they are not level, you will need to repeat this step.
- If you are using a screwdriver, you will need to drill pilot holes using the dots you marked in the previous step. If you are using a screw gun you may be able to skip this step and simply screw the bracket into the window frame. When you have the brackets installed on both sides of the window, check one more time to make sure that they are level before you install roller blinds.
- Finally, you are ready to install roller blinds into the brackets. There should be small plastic inserts that came with the blinds. Place the plastic inserts into your brackets. A pin on either side of the roller blinds should extend and snap into the plastic inserts.
