How to Make ATM Deposits North Carolina

Although most people in North Carolina have used ATMs to withdraw money or check the balance in their account, far fewer have used an ATM to make a deposit. Because ATMs can be accessed 24-hours per day, they are an easy way to deposit checks or cash without waiting for your bank to open.

Although most people have used ATMs to withdraw money or check the balance in their account, far fewer have used an ATM to make a deposit. Because ATMs can be accessed 24-hours per day, they are an easy way to deposit checks or cash without waiting for your bank to open. However, unlike withdrawals you usually need to visit an ATM in your banks network, not just any ATM, to make a deposit. Heres how to make ATM deposits:

  1. Know what to bring with you. You will need your ATM or debit card, as well as your pin number, to make a deposit. Some banks require a deposit slip when depositing money in an ATM, while others do not. Ask your bank if you are unsure of their requirements. Some ATMs, even those from your own bank, do not accept any deposits. Usually, those located at a bank branch are more likely to accept deposits than those in other locations.
  2. Prepare your checks and deposit slip. Before approaching the ATM, endorse (sign) the back of your checks. If you need to use a deposit slip for your bank, fill it out completely. You cannot deposit coins using an ATM.
  3. Place the checks and cash in the envelope. Youll need to place your checks and cash in a special ATM envelope, not just any envelope. These can be obtained from the bank during business hours. They may also be located next to the ATM, and the ATM will always offer to dispense one if you need it. Some newer ATM types do not require an envelope. Instead, they scan each check as you feed them in, 1-by-1, and then provide you with a digital image of the checks you have deposited. Seal the envelope, and write the amount and your name or account number on the front. Do all of these steps before approaching the ATM, or you will hold up the line.
  4. Complete the ATM transaction. Insert your card into the ATM, and type in your PIN. Then select Deposit. If the choice is given, decide between depositing the funds into your checking account or savings account. Then enter the amount of your deposit, and press enter. If you dont already have an envelope, the machine should give one to you.
  5. Slide your envelope into the machine. After you have entered this information, a special deposit slot will automatically open on the ATM. Do not fold your envelope, and be sure to slide it in the right way. Most deposit envelopes have arrows to show you which way to feed it into the machine.
  6. Wait for your card and receipt. Many people accidentally walk away from the ATM without these important items. Your account may still be accessible on the screen if you have not remembered to wait for your ATM or debit card and your receipt.

Depositing money into your banks ATM is fairly straightforward, and the process should be easy to follow, especially if youve withdrawn money from an ATM machine before. If the bank is busy or closed, an ATM can allow you to deposit funds in a much more convenient manner. The money should be available from your account within 2 business days after the day you deposit the funds.
