Steps

  1. Purchase four kitchen sponges.
  2. Place one sponge under each corner of the washing machine. The sponges will reduce the echoing noise a lot. As an added bonus, you will also find that the washing machine stops trying to wander across the floor as it spins!
  3. Check the balance of the machine is still accurate before using again.
  4. Insulate around the washing machine. If you have a washing machine that sits inside a cupboard or built-around shelving, you might be able to add insulation that reduces the sound. Cut some foam sheeting into thin sheets and attach to the inside of the cupboard or shelving with suitable adhesive. Don't forget to insulate the cupboard door as well.
  5. Keep the laundry door shut. When using the washing machine, keep the laundry door closed. If it has large gaps underneath, attach a door draught stopper to help keep the noise in the laundry.
  6. Have the machine serviced. If the noise from your washing machine is above the ordinary hubbub of a machine doing its washing thing, it's probably time to get the washing machine serviced.

Tips

  • Read the instructions accompanying your washing machine. Strange new rattles and bumps can often be avoided by following the instructions and not causing the engine brakes to work unnecessarily. Eventually, the engine or the spinner will wear out and cause a lot of noise in the process if the machine is not operated properly.

Things You'll Need
