Size differences between males and females vary little, with a healthy male reaching 24 pounds and 17 inches in height, with females reaching 22 pounds and 16 inches measured at the shoulder.

Training a Basenji can take time and patience, but once they warm up to you; they tend to become very dependent upon your company. This is not a breed that can tolerate being left alone for any period of time.
Expect a Basenji to have plenty of energy which needs to be walked off or channeled through plenty of exercise and games. Basenjis enjoying chewing and climbing as two of their favorite pastimes, so give them plenty of toys to exercise their gums and opt for wooden fences rather than chain link.

Their major health issues are problems with the kidneys. Basenjis can be expected to provide alert and intelligent companionship for 10 to 12 years.
