As any local or interstate furniture removal or interstae backload can be a stressful practice, composing a list of the most important tasks you must complete to ensure a smooth transition is a very good idea. Much of the work must be completed before moving day, so make sure to take care of everything that needs to be done in a timely manner.

Six Weeks Before Moving Day

Make sure to sit down with all of your move documents and organize them based on importance. Ensure that your moving company is booked and confirmed; it becomes increasingly difficult to find inexpensive furniture removalists as the day in question comes nearer.

It is also a good idea to check on your insurance and make sure that everything is in order for your local move, interstate furniture removal or interstate back loading.

Procure enough boxes to complete your packing, or hire a professional packing company to do it for you. Going through your belongings and removing unwanted objects for a garage sale is a way to make the furniture removal process much easier.

Mentally plan where you will put everything when you arrive at your new home, and make sure that you do not forget anything from those little used places (such as the garage or under the deck).

Do not forget to have your mail redirected; you will have to contact each magazine and newspaper to let them know of your new address, so make sure to do so in a timely manner. Securing all necessary travel documents—including passports or visas—is very important when you are relocating to another country, and arranging school transfers for your children. This should be completed by this time.

One Week Before Your Furniture Removal

Make a comprehensive checklist for moving day that includes everything that you will need to do on the day in question. Cancel any deliveries that you receive on a regular basis, as well as your internet, phone, and electricity services. Make sure that you know your way around your new area, and confirm all important arrangements for the transportation of your cars and pets.

Two Days to Go

Make sure that your finances are in order for the coming week and get your motor vehicle inspected if you will be traveling a long distance. Pack the things that you will need in the immediate future—clothes, shoes, toiletry items, basic refreshments etc.—and make sure that they are clear of the items that the movers will collect. Arrange for proper parking permits for your furniture removal team, if necessary, and take care of any last minute laundry and garbage collection that must be completed before the move.

Moving Day

Take a deep breath and dive in; a local move or interstate backload is not too bad. Make sure to check everywhere for leftover items; you can never be too careful when it comes to leaving your former home, and many a homeowner has lost a treasured possession during a hectic move. Keep all of your important items with you that you will need for the day; packing a small bag with your money, travel documents, and important personal items will keep you from thinking you have forgotten something.

You might even want to do some last minute cleaning to make your former house look presentable for its new occupants. Turn off the power, lock up tight, and keep your item inventory close by. If you can accomplish all of these things, then moving day, which is usually stressful, will be easier than you think.
