Jacksonville International Airport is a modern airport with many facilities that services the greater Jacksonville area. The airport is located about 15 miles north of the city of Jacksonville. The airport code for Jacksonville International Airport is JAX.


1. Basic airport information

Jacksonville International Airport is located in the northeast part of Florida and lies next to the Jacksonville suburbs of Biscayne Village, San Mateo, Garden City, and Oceanway. The airport is a major hub for both northern Florida and southern Georgia. The airport services over 6 million passengers every year. Every day, the arriving and departing flights total around 200. There has been recent expansion work on the airport, costing in excess of $150 million, because of the increasing number of passengers using the airport. 2. Terminal Information

Jacksonville International Airport has one terminal building and it is easy to find your way around. There recently have been many upgrades, especially with the addition of new facilities. The Arrivals and Baggage Claim areas are on the lower level of the terminal. You will find Ticketing, Check In, and Departures, as well as most of the other facilities of the airport, on the upper level of the building. In the Departures area, there is one central hub with three concourses, A, B, and C. The airlines that service Jacksonville International Airport are Airtrain, American, Conair, Continental, Continental Connection/Express, Delta, Executive, Independence, Midway, Northwest, Southwest, United, US Airways, and US Airways Express. Executive Airlines is the only carrier not based in the United States, based out of Spain, but several of the airlines fly to international destinations.

3. Driving Directions to the Airport

It is not difficult to drive to and from Jacksonville International Airport to Jacksonville and the surrounding areas. The airport is adjacent to the New York to Miami I-95, which is a busy interstate beside the airport, as well as the I-295 Jacksonville bypass that is just south of the airport. The main roads that lead to the airport's terminal are Duval Road (turns into Airport Road and Service Road), International Airport Boulevard, and Lem Turner Road.

To reach the airport from the north, drive on the I-95 heading south, take the 363 Exit, and then onto Airport Road heading west. Continue driving directly to the airport.

To reach the airport from the south, and the city of Jacksonville, drive on the I-95 heading north and take the 363 Exit heading west. Continue driving directly to the airport.

To reach the airport from the east, drive on Highway 10 from the area of Jacksonville Beach and then turn right onto US-9A, continuing until you meet with I-95 North. Exit the I-95 at Exit 363B to Airport Road until you reach the terminal and parking facilities.

To reach the airport from the west, drive on I-10 heading east and then take the I-295 heading north at Exit 256. Continue driving until you reach the end of I-295 and you will join I-95 heading north. Take Exit 363B onto Airport Road and you will drive directly to the airport.

The main roads heading in and out of Jacksonville, as well as I-95, I-295, and US-9A, are very busy and can become congested during the morning and late afternoon rush hours. 4. Transportation Options at the Airport

There are many transportation options traveling to and from Jacksonville International Airport. There are shuttle buses, hotel shuttle buses, taxis, and limousine services available. All the transportation options at the airport are located next to the Baggage Claim area on the lower level of the terminal. It is also easy to reach the surrounding areas of Daytona Beach and Orlando to the south and Savannah, Georgia to the north, as I-295 reaches both destinations and is near the airport.

The best and least expensive way to get from Jacksonville International Airport to Jacksonville and the surrounding areas is by the Express Shuttle. The Express Shuttle is a public system of transportation that travels to the city, the surrounding beaches, and other destinations around Florida and the southeast area of Georgia. The Express Shuttle is a minibus service, and you can catch it outside the Baggage Claim area in the Express Shuttle booth located in Section 5. There are many hotel shuttle buses that service the airport. These hotel shuttle buses offer courtesy pick-ups and drop-offs to and from various airports around Jacksonville. You should check with the hotel you are staying at to see if these courtesy shuttle buses are available.

Outside the Baggage Claim area, there are many taxis available. The official taxi of Jacksonville International Airport is called Gator City Taxi. Gator City Taxi offers transportation to and from the airport from Jacksonville and the surrounding areas. These are metered taxis and wheelchair accessible taxis available on request. 5. Airport Facilities

Jacksonville International Airport offers facilities for both passengers and guests. There have been many new facilities that were added after the recent airport expansion. The facilities are located throughout the terminal building at the airport.

Jacksonville International Airport has many information desks and passenger services. There is porter assistance that can help you with anything you need at the airport. Located on the lower level of the terminal building, there is an information center and a welcome desk that can help you with airport, tourist, and transportation information, in addition to up-to-date arrival and departure flight information. Located throughout the terminal building, there are facilities for currency exchange, communications, and banking. On both the upper level and lower level of the terminal, there are ATM machines. Spread throughout the terminal are courtesy and pay phone telephones. Postal facilities include a post office box, a Federal Express drop box, and a stamp machine.

The Business Center at Jacksonville International Airport, located on the upper level, has business services such as telephones, data ports, postage services, and wireless Internet access. The Delta Crown Room located in Concourse A is an executive lounge for business travelers and also has many business services. For larger business meetings and conferences, there is the Clarion Airport Hotel and Conference Center, which is located right next to the airport.

There are many facilities for the disabled located throughout the airport, including wheelchair lifts, toilets, and telephones. The airport can provide passengers and guests with wheelchairs on request. If any disabled passenger needs special assistance, they should contact the airport beforehand.

There are other facilities at the airport for passengers. For children, there is a game room located on the upper level. Also located on the upper level are other services such as a message booth, a shoeshine service, and a medication room. Once a month, live concerts are held on the upper level.

6. Dining and Shopping

There are many options for eating, drinking, and shopping at Jacksonville International Airport. The eating and shopping establishments are located on both levels, but most are located in the upper level in the Departures area. Located throughout the airport, there are also several newsstands, which sell newspapers, magazines, books, and snacks.

There are a wide variety of shops located at the airport from specialty shops to retail chains. These are mainly located in the upper level. There are gift shops, a shop where you can rent DVD's, a designer sunglass store, and even a 24-hour flower vending machine. Some of the retail and specialty shops include Paradies' Rivercity Travelmart, Silver Box, Dekko Designs jewelry store, the PGA Tour shop, and Olde Town Books.

There are a wide variety of eating and drinking possibilities at the airport. There is a food court on the upper level and several coffee shops, snack bars, bars, and sit-down restaurants. Some of the eating and drinking establishments include Swensen's Ice Cream shop, Burger King, Starbucks, Italian Eatery Pizza, Shipyard Brewery, NASCAR Café, Ybor City Brewing Company, and Budweiser Brewhouse. Many of the brew houses also serve food.

7. Car Parking at the Airport

There are many car-parking options at Jacksonville International Airport. There are both short and long-term parking and a drop off/pick up area. There are three long term parking areas near the airport, which have courtesy shuttle buses, operating 24 hours a day, that run to and from the terminal building. All the car-parking areas at the airport accept cash, checks, Master Card, Visa, and American Express.

The most convenient parking option at the airport is the long and short-term parking garage, located right in front of the terminal building. This parking garage is a multi-story garage, and the hourly rate and daily parking areas in the garage are located in the rear. The first 30 minutes of parking at the garage are free. Right behind this garage is the long-term parking lot that has better parking rates for longer stays than the multi-level garage. This surface parking lot is within walking distance of the terminal building. The least expensive parking options are the three remote parking lots. These parking lots are located near the entrance of Pecan Park Road and are only a few hundred yards from the terminal building. The 24-hour courtesy shuttles taking you directly to and from the terminal entrance serve these three parking lots. There is valet parking available at the airport 24 hours a day. There are check-in booths that are located in the upper level of the terminal, and many disabled parking spaces located in all the parking areas. To park in the disabled spaces, the car must display a handicapped sticker. If disabled passengers need special assistance to get to and from the terminal to the parking areas, they need to contact the airport.

8. Accommodations Near the Airport

There are several hotels near Jacksonville International Airport. The closest one is the Clarion Hotel and Conference Center, which is located on the grounds of the airport itself. This hotel offers many business and conference facilities. Many of the hotels that are near the airport are located along Airport Road. Courtesy shuttle buses service many other accommodations that are nearby, as well as around Jacksonville and the surrounding areas. 9. Accommodations in Jacksonville

There is a wide range of accommodations in Jacksonville itself and the surrounding areas. These range from budget hotels to 5 star luxury hotels and beach resorts. The downtown district of Jacksonville has numerous accommodation options. Many are near restaurants, shopping areas, bars and lounges, and concert venues. Many of the hotels downtown overlook the St. John's River. There are many hotels right along the beach in the Beach District. Many of these hotels offer vacation packages, which include the flight and the accommodation. The Port area of the city has many ferries that travel to surrounding areas, such as Key West, and there are many accommodation options. The most historic area of Jacksonville is Riverside Avondale right along the river. There are many hotels in this area, especially near Memorial Park.
