| Pharmacology |
Administered to guinea-pigs, Jie Geng infusion can raise blood pressure, increase heartbeat amplitude, weaken breathing, and increase saliva secretion. It can also increase tracheal secretion, with the ED50 being 1000ng/ml.( 6),( 7),( 8)
Administered to rats by abdominal injection, Jie Geng extract has a 60% effective rate in arresting cough.( 9),( 10),( 11)
Oral feeding platycodin to mice can prolong their pain latency.
Oral feeding platycodin to mice can induce sleep.( 12)
Platycodin counteracts temperature rise in rats.( 13),( 14)
Jie Geng promotes the secretion of corticosterone in rats, and thereby achieves an anti-inflammatory effect.( 15),( 16),( 17)
Jie Geng can prevent stress-induced ulcers, and inhibit ulceration in rats due to pyloric ligation.( 18)
