With pool safety of the utmost importance, particularly with regard to children, Terrapin Communications has introduced the Wireless Gate Alarm (bottom right), specifically for use where pool access is separate from access to the backyard. “The gate is the weak link in pool safety, even if it's self-latching,” says creator Bob Lyons. With the gate alarm, a base unit in the house will sound at 110 decibels when the gate-mounted sensor detects that the gate has been opened. An 11-second bypass switch lets adults and supervised children enter without sounding the alarm.

For poolside safety, GoldenLook's Pebble-Flex surfacing (above) offers shock absorption and skid resistance on slippery pool decks. The material, made of a thermo-plastic polymer and binder, can be poured over existing concrete. Available in more than 20 colors, Pebble-Flex is UV-resistant, so it's less susceptible to sun degradation than other materials, the maker says.

Once the fun is over, manufacturer Intermatic offers its I-Wave wireless pool and spa controls to make pool maintenance less of a chore.

With the three-circuit Digital Time Clock, homeowners can operate pool pumps or underwater, landscape, and fountain lighting at preset intervals.
