| Pharmacology |
Studies show that Kun Bu can significantly increase the activity of lecithin cholesterol acyltransterase in rats with experimental hyperlipidemia, raise the level of high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), especially that of HDL 2-C, and lower the level of total cholesterol. It can reduce lipid superoxide, promote the elimination of cholesterol (thereby improving the lipid metabolism disorder), and strengthen the body's function of counteracting lipid peroxidation.( 5)
Kun Bu polysaccharide sulfate inhibits the adhesion of alkaline fibroblast growth factor and the proliferation of fibroblast-dependant cells. It inhibits endothelial cells from forming tubular construction and inhibits allantochorion formation. It can also suppress the growth of RIF-1 tumors in rats.( 6)
Studies show that Kun Bu can significantly reduce the levels of total cholesterol, b-lipoprotein, and triglyceride, raise the levels of HDL-C and HDL2-c, reduce relative blood viscosity, relative plasma viscosity, reduction viscosity and fibrinogen. But it does not affect hematocrit and erythrocyte deformation indexes.( 7)
Kun Bu extract is effective in relieving sulfur dioxide-induced cough in rats, or by electrostimulation-induced cough in cats. It also can prevent histamine-induced asthma in guinea pigs.( 8)
Kun Bu iodine can kill a number of bacteria and viruses. The extract is an effective germicide to 5 kinds of commonly encountered pathogenic microbes such as trichophyta rubra.( 9)
Kun Bu can recover thyroid dysfunction due to iodine deficiency. It can be used to temporarily suppress the metabolic rate in hyperthyroidism and consequently relieve patients' symptoms.( 10)
