This guide is a compiled list of the top-performing 2008-model year large premium cars in J.D. Power and Associates' key automotive research studies. The studies include the 2007 Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS), the 2007 Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study, and the 2007 Initial Quality Study (IQS). All models are listed alphabetically by manufacturer.

Audi A8: Competing head-to-head with the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and the BMW 7 Series, the 5-passenger Audi A8 differentiates itself with an aluminum space-frame construction. Available in both the standard A8 model and the long-wheelbase A8 L, the lightweight chassis increases fuel economy and structural rigidity for a better ride, according to the manufacturer. As with its German competitors, the A8 offers the choice between 8- or 12-cylinder power (the engine is a W-12). In addition, Audi offers a powerful V-10 engine in the high-performance S8. All are mated to Audi's quattro permanent all-wheel-drive (AWD) system. In standard trim, the Audi A8 earned EPA fuel-economy estimates of 16 mpg city/23 mpg highway. In the 2007 IQS, which measures problems experienced by buyers after 90 days of ownership, the Audi A8 ranked highest in its segment. For 2008, Audi recalibrated the steering, improved soundproofing, and made several additional cosmetic and accessory changes to their flagship model.
