Reader Question Do you need auto insurance when you have a learner's permit?

Either your parents or anyone who is over 25 and drives needs insurance for the car. You will not need the insurance until you receive your own license and car. In order to get insurance you will need to have a valid driver’s license. There will be no insurance policy issued if you only have a driver’s permit.

You have to be insured in order to have a motor vehicle even if you only have a learner’s permit. In most of the cases the beginning drivers who live with their parents are under their parent’s policy to be sure check with the insurance carrier.

Beginning drivers who attend a driving school, either a commercial course or through their high school, will be under their school’s insurance policy. Then the driver must take steps to insure oneself.

There are a variety of options on which insurance company you have. I got mine last July but I did not get insurance until a few days ago when I got my license, and because the parents needed to be in the car they covered me. This has to be checked with the insurance company.

You do not need insurance when you have a learner’s permit, but the car that you are driving does. Most insurance companies will cover that and because of that you have to call your agent and understand how it works.

You have to do it if you want your car to be working and if you do not want to drive you will not need an insurance and if she adds you as a driver to the insurance policy you will have to pay unless your parents do that for you but you still cannot drive without an insurance permit or license.

If you are driving with your parents then you do not have to be with their insurance. The agent said that they do and the insurance company said that they do not. It is different for each insurance company but you have to call the insurance company to find out.
