Moving yourself or your business from one location to another can save you a lot of money compared to the cost of moving companies these days. If you're able, it's a smart decision. But let's face it: few of us are moving pros. There is a knack to loading moving rental trucks. Follow these instructions on how to load moving rental trucks so that your possessions survive the journey.

STEP 2:

Slip skinnier larger items into the spaces. Once all of your large items are safely loaded and secured onto the moving rental truck, start to slide the larger, skinnier pieces into any available spaces. The whole goal here is to get the truck as compact as possible. Mattresses, mirrors, pictures, tabletops and so on are thin enough that they can be placed between bulkier items without taking up too much additional space. It's always a good idea to put a plastic mattress cover over your mattresses when you transport them to save them from getting direct. These can be purchased for a minimal price from your moving supply store. And mirrors and pictures need to be wrapped and boxed to void damage while moving.

STEP 3:

Take apart awkward furniture before loading it. Some furniture, although annoying to reassemble, should be disassembled to make your move easier. Take apart bed frames. This will make them more compact. Large stereo cabinets should also be taken apart, at least in sections, to make for easier transport. You don't want to break your back carrying a large piece just so that you don't have to put it together again. Take the time to disassemble.

STEP 4:

Heaviest boxes should go on the bottom. Now that all of your large, bulky and awkward items are loaded onto the rental moving truck, you can begin to move your boxes onto the truck. Because they are sturdiest, heavy boxes should be loaded first, nearest to the floor. Remember that these heavy boxes will be the base for everything that you stack on top of them in the rental moving truck, so ensure that the cardboard is strong enough to carry quite a heavy load.

STEP 5:

Lighter boxes fill in all the spaces. The final stage of loading a moving rental van is filling in the spaces with smaller, lighter boxes. Try to stack boxes as high as you can, but make sure that there isn't any possibility that they will fall or shift as you're driving. If you can manage to position your boxes and furniture tightly into a rental moving truck, you should be able to fit more on each load.
