Access Control

Auxiliary Lock An auxillary lock is the addition of another lock to your front door for example. If you currently have one lock and want to add another, that an auxiliary lock. See also: Cylinder

Bolt The bolt is the object whichs comes out of the door and enters into the door frame to secure it. See also: Deadbolt

CAM A cam is a lock or cylinder component which transfers the rotational motion of a key or cylinder plug to the bolt works of a lock and could be the bolt of a cam lock. This is the typical locking mechanism for Filing Cabinet Locks and Mailbox Locks. See also: Cam Lock, File Cabinet

Cam Lock A Cam Lock is the type of lock typically used in filing cabinets and mailboxes, it uses a cam to secure the object. See also: CAM

CCTV -- Closed Circuit Television A CCTV is a system of hidden or visible cameras hooked up to a security monitoring room or a set of recording devices. See also: DVR - (Digital Video Recorder)

Chair Lock A Chain Lock is a device used to secure property with interlocking links and secured on both ends by a slide plate or a key locking device. See also: Door Frame

Chamber A Chamber is any cavity in a cylinder plug and/or shell which houses the tumblers. See also: Cylinder, Tumbler

Combination Lock A lock which is operated by local input of a specific series or sequence of numbers or letters is a combination lock. See also: Padlock, Safe

Cylinder A complete operating unit which usually consists of the plug shell, tumblers, springs, plug retainer, a cam/tailpiece or other actuating device, and all other necessary operating parts. Easily recognizable as the outside unit where the key goes in of a lock on a door. See also: Jimmy Proof, Mortise Cylinder, Rim Cylinder, Tubmler, High Security Cylinder,

Cylinder Guard A protective cylinder mounting device that covers the cylinder on the front of a door to prevent prying. See also: Cylinder, Plate

Deadbolt A Deadbolt is a lock with a bolt, which requires a deliberate action to extend, and which resists end pressure in the unlocking direction when fully extended. See also: Bolt, Door Frame
