CAM A cam is a lock or cylinder component which transfers the rotational motion of a key or cylinder plug to the bolt works of a lock and could be the bolt of a cam lock. This is the typical locking mechanism for Filing Cabinet Locks and Mailbox Locks. See also: Cam Lock, File Cabinet

Cam Lock A Cam Lock is the type of lock typically used in filing cabinets and mailboxes, it uses a cam to secure the object. See also: CAM

Cylinder A complete operating unit which usually consists of the plug shell, tumblers, springs, plug retainer, a cam/tailpiece or other actuating device, and all other necessary operating parts. Deadbolt A Deadbolt is a lock with a bolt, which requires a deliberate action to extend, and which resists end pressure in the unlocking direction when fully extended. See also: Bolt, Door Frame
