First, you will need to determine your ceremony location and venue. Since you may not see this site before booking your venue, you may want to use sites that have customer reviews attached to them. If they do not have a website listed or there are not customer reviews, the best thing to do is schedule a phone site visit. This will give you the opportunity to ask any questions you would ask on a traditional site visit. These questions are pretty standard but you can find a general list in any wedding agenda planner or online at various wedding websites.

Second, ask any vendors that you plan on using to send you a proposal. This is a list of agreed upon terms for the wedding date and will include price, location, and any other details you have added in. Note, if you're planning a wedding in a foreign country, make sure any requests or guidelines translate and are provided in English.

One way to make a long distance wedding easier is once you have your ceremony and reception site nailed down, ask them to provide a list of retailers they have worked with in the past. This will help minimize those stressful details that can arise. If they have worked together in the past they are likely to know space limitations and set-up arrangements. They will also know any rules that the establishment might have and what will work well in the space and what will not. There also might be discounts involved with using one of their recommended vendors.

Last and certainly not least, get everything in writing. Make sure your contracts are agreed upon by both parties and set up well in advance. If you can meet with people personally, great, but if that is not an option be clear about your terms, dates, times, and expectations.
