Mantel Decorations New Brunswick NJ

I built a custom mantel for our new home and it's been sitting "naked" for almost two years with the exception of a few Christmas decorations this year. My darling wife has been begging me to go shopping with her to pick out decorations for our mantel so it wouldn't look so plain. We ended up buying some great stuff on clearance at Pier 1 Imports. The main focus piece of art is a really cool carved wood portrait of mums.

Mantel Decorations

I built a custom mantel for our new home and it's been sitting "naked" for almost two years with the exception of a few Christmas decorations this year. My darling wife has been begging me to go shopping with her to pick out decorations for our mantel so it wouldn't look so plain. We ended up buying some great stuff on clearance at Pier 1 Imports. The main focus piece of art is a really cool carved wood portait of mums. It was quite a steal at only $99.  We matched the artwork colors up with some vases and candle sticks.[caption id="attachment_959" align="alignright" width="300" caption="Mantel - Before"]Mantel - Before[/caption]Finding a piece of artwork that was the correct proportions was the hardest part. Our new mantel is very wide and has a very deep shelf on top. This was actually a result of a design to incorporate Old World Christmas lights that my wife collects. Luckily the piece we found is almost a perfect proportion of length to height to match the wall above the mantel.I think we did a really good job. We spent a total of $200 for the piece of art, two vases, 3 candle sticks, the candlelabra and all the candles. Another great place to shop for these kinds of decorative items is on Amazon especially because they offer FREE shipping on so many items.Do you have a mantel? How is yours decorated? What do you think of our decorations?
