1. What if I don’t live in the United States? Can I still get certified?
Yes. Microsoft Certification is offered in many other countries as well as the United States. Consult the Microsoft website for further information.
2. How much does training to take the exams cost?
It depends on the training you choose. You may choose to buy a book and study for your exams that way or take a course at your community college. In addition, Microsoft has partners that are authorized to offer training. Consult with the particular venue you have chosen to provide your training for the specific price.
3. Will I make more money after I’m certified?
As with any other career decision, the salaries of those with higher education, including certification are almost always higher than employees without any formal education. Check with your human resources department to learn what certification can mean for you in terms of a higher salary at your present job.
4. How do I get started? I don’t even work in IT?
First, you’re going to have to ask yourself and provide the answers to some questions. What is it you really want to do? If you’re not sure, do some research or talk to an advisor, perhaps at your community college or trade school. Once you have narrowed down what part of IT you want to work in, you’ll be able to find the proper certification necessary.
Don’t stop there though. Look at all the qualifications for the job you’re seeking. If it takes 3-5 years of experience to get hired in your chosen occupation, step back a little and see what kind of job in the IT field you can get in order to get that experience. Couple that with the proper certifications and you’ll be on your way.
