The end of the old year and beginning of a new one can be a great time to get away from jostle and rush of the holiday season and relax. A New Year’s vacation is refreshing and a great way to let go of pent up stress, and if you want to take a break from your busy life, then refer to some of the tips below for a satisfying experience.
It’s important to start planning this trip early on. New Year’s is a very popular time of the year for vacationers, and hotel rooms and airline tickets go rather quickly. Planning ahead also allows you to pick your companions for the trip, save money, and get passports and other documentation if needed.
Figure out who you want to go with. For a more relaxed atmosphere, perhaps limiting the list of the invited to your significant other is a good idea, but vacations with more people (a greater number of couples, perhaps the entire family or many families) can feel busier and more activity-filled. Once you’ve decided who will be coming, you can discuss potential destinations and costs together. Have a small get-together and agree where you would like to go and how you would like to spend your time. Be sure to consider what you will do on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, because available activities will be limited by your destination. For example, if you want a very low-key evening with friends or family, perhaps a secluded beach bungalow is the best idea, but if you want a loud and bubbly scene, a major city could be a better getaway location.
Decide where you want to go. Many people enjoy a warm, tropical climate for a New Year’s vacation. Contacting a travel agent can be a good way to find a packaged deal that may enhance your trip and provide for some fun things that might otherwise not have happened. Depending on what kind of experience you want to have, though, a vacation package might not be the best idea. Sometimes charming little cottages, hotels, or exciting things to do can pop up when you do your own research.
However, don’t discount cold-weather vacations. Sometimes an athletic endeavor (such as skiing or snowboarding) can be a good, cathartic release of stress and be healthy and fun. Again, depending on what it is you want from your vacation, a resort town can be very restful or busy and crowded.
Cruises are another popular New Year’s vacation, and are easily found by just searching “New Year’s cruises.” Cruises offer the advantage of an all-expenses-included experience; a one-time flat fee without hidden costs. A cruise also affords both ends of the spectrum on New Year’s Eve: there are clubs and bars if you’re in the mood for a party atmosphere, but there will certainly be quiet, calm places if you crave peace.
Most of all, just remember that the point of a vacation is to relax and have fun. Don’t allow your vacation to own you or stress you too much—the holidays will do that for you. As mentioned earlier, planning ahead is a great way to avoid excess stress; if you arrange all the details early enough, your vacation will give you something to look forward to at the end of an old year and the beginning of a new one.
