If you’ve got a knack for fashion and you’ve always wanted to be an entrepreneur, then you’ve likely considered starting a clothing shop. You might be overwhelmed with all that is involved in starting a new business, and don’t be shocked to learn that there’s likely more that you don’t know about starting a clothing shop. But you’ve made the right first step – do your research and follow these suggestions when discovering how to start a clothing shop.
STEP 2:
Find a location in a good area. To get the best traffic and therefore the best profit, you need to locate your clothing shop in an area where there are steady crowds. If you can afford it, a retail space within a mall is ideal. If not, consider popular streets in your neighborhood. Spend some time scouting the area you're interested in before committing to a lease too. Figure out how many people shop there on a typical day to make sure that you'll have steady traffic once you open your clothing shop.
STEP 3:
Make the store attractive. You want to get as many customers into your store as you can, and the easiest way to do that is to make the storefront attractive. Have large, clean windows that showcase your clothing and go with a modern and attractive logo on the sign outside your store. Once customers get inside, you'll want to keep them there. So give the store a fresh coat of paint, some durable but colorful flooring and some stylish racks. Although you may want to go cheap when first starting out buying racks, your choice will make an impression on people the minute they walk in and you want it to be a good one.
STEP 4:
Hire some help. As good as you are, you can't start a clothing shop without a little help. You don't want to be solely responsible for opening and closing the store every day, or you'll get burnt out before the first week is up. Hire some part-time help to work a few hours throughout the week, and make sure that there is at least one day a week when you don't even set foot in your store (for your own sanity). You need to take a break too and reenergize, or your business will suffer.
STEP 5:
Advertise. As with all new stores, it's important to let people know that you're open for business. Word of mouth will probably be your first marketing campaign. But you should also consider advertising in the local newspaper, or distributing flyers in the local community. Consider offering a "grand opening" sale for the first week to compel people to visit your new clothing shop. While there is always a risk in any new business venture, unique and attractive clothing shops will likely do well, provided that you’ve discovered how to draw customers in. It will take a lot of time and effort on your part, but if you have done the research and have great products to sell, then your new clothing shop will certainly be a success.
