Tidy Up in the Easiest Ways Possible
To tidy up and organize your home in the easiest way possible, deal with the busiest areas in your house.
- Reception Area: receiving guests. Designate a spot in your house for entertaining guests. It could be your living room or dining area. Make it sleek and efficient. Have in the room some books, magazines or just the newspaper for your guests to read while you go get them a drink. Go an extra notch by adding a calendar, calling cards, and readying some pens and notepads for setting important appointments or special gatherings or occasions.
Train your kids not to play with all their toys or throw all of their school stuff in the ‘guest area.’ If it can’t be helped though, invest in dual-purpose furniture such as ottomans with built-in storage, or just one of those big plastic boxes with rollers. This will come handy when you need to make a quick clean ‘sweep’ of the room before you receive guests.
- Kitchen: caring for your kid while you cook. Designate a special drawer in your kitchen for your toddler to dig in – while you are busy with kitchen work. Use a low-level drawer and put in their toys or harmless items like pots and pans with which your child can play. You not only get to keep an eye on your child when you’re busy in the kitchen, but you also get to spend more time with him and keep you both entertained while working.
- Study Place: for easy breezy homework (and much more). Set up a homework area in your home to encourage your kids to do their homework. It could be a small nook in your dining area, his room, or a special spot elsewhere in your home. You decide based on what works for your kids. Most kids do better if they have a special place where they can concentrate more on their homework, and not have any distractions such as the TV or the computer. This also helps your child keep important school items organized in one place, so you both don’t rush all over looking for missing things while your kid’s school bus honks outside so early in the morning. ...
