Controlling outdoor pests can be quite a difficult challenge and this task becomes even more difficult if you have an outdoor garden. There are many things in your garden that can attract a lot of attention from outdoor insects and if you don't take precautions the plants you are growing in your garden could end up looking more like Swiss cheese than you would like. Thankfully there are a number of things you can do to prevent these outdoor pests from assaulting your garden and overtaking your yard.

There are a number of preventive measures you can take to reduce your chances of ever having a pest infestation in your garden. The first step to preventing bug infestations is to use proper soil, and to ensure that you properly wash your garden tools after weeding and removing dead or dying plants. The removal of dead or dying plants is a very crucial step in order to reduce your infestations as almost every type of outdoor insects thrives on these types of plants. This step may take a little time depending on the size of your garden but by performing this step you will not only reduce the bug population in your garden but your plants will grow healthier.

Your watering techniques and routine also place an important role in your ability to control the insect population of your garden. When you are watering your garden you need to ensure that you only water the soil around the plants and not the plants themselves. Wet plants attract insects to them much easier and wet plants are also more prone to a vast array of fungal diseases. The time of day that you water garden also plays a large factor in your bug population. You should always attempt to water your plants in the morning before noon when the sun is at its highest point.

The last thing you can do to help control the bug population of your garden is learn to attract and avoid killing the insects that actually help control insect infestations. Certain bugs like wasps, ladybugs, and the praying mantis are beneficial to your garden as they naturally help control the presence of other bugs in your gardens.
