Roulette is a casino game that is totally dependent on luck as with all gambling games this can vary depending upon your luck of the day. But knowing certain rules of the game is going to be helpful in your playing the game well and understanding its technicalities. Whenever a game of live roulette is played seriously, all the players are expected to be acquainted with some norms of the game. The dealer and all the participants assume that you know these norms and will interact with you as though you are knowledgeable about these norms.

First of all, you should know the correct method of playing the game. You should know the maximum and minimum amounts that you can bet on and the player etiquette. You should be well acquainted with the game lingo. For example when playing online, you should know what spin, clear, and reset buttons stand for. You should know the number of chips that you can pick up and method of placing them on the board for betting on a desired number.

There are some important rules that you need to know before starting off with the game. For example, there is the En Prison Rule, that is used in playing the game live. This rule comes into effect if the outcome turns out to be zero. In such a case the player is given the option of getting back half the amount of money that he/she had betted upon or carry forward the amount for the next round of the game. If the player gets a zero even in the next round, he/she looses the entire amount that has been betted upon. The zero is not included on bets such as red or black, high or low.

There is another rule called the La Partage rule that is similar to the En Prison rule. According to the La Partage rule, if the outcome of a spin is zero, the player can take back half the amount that he/she betted upon. He or she does not get the chance to carry it forward to the next spin. This rule is not used at many casinos. The En Partage rule is commonly used.

There are certain payout rules that you should be acquainted with. If you place a bet on just one number you are doing a straight up bet. The chance of your winning the bet is 1 in 35. By betting on two numbers you are going for a split bet and the chances of your winning are 1 in 17 chances. Similarly betting on three, four, six, column outside even numbers are called a street bet, corner bet, six number bet, outside dozen bet, and outside even money bets respectively. The odds and bets on roulette are fixed so these do not change no matter which kind of wheel you are playing on.

There is the House Edge or the house advantage that is 2.7 on a single table and 5.26 to 7.9 on a double zero table that pays a bit lesser than what you actually win.
