Artist Freda Abbott-Ayodele will work with participants to create hand-held masquerade masks from cardboard. Masks can be adorned them with a variety of supplied materials. Participants are encouraged to bring in items of inspiration to adorn their masks. The workshop isi part of the Soul! exhibition. FREE with museum admission.

The College of Social Work's 2009 O'Leary Memorial Lecture will be presented on October 26 at 6pm by Dr. Diana DiNitto, professor at the University of Texas at Austin's School of Social Work. Dr. DiNitto will present "Ending America's Ambivalence in the War on Drugs." The lecture is free, as is the parking at the Fawcett Center location on 2400 Olentangy River Road in Columbus. A reception with light hors d'oeuvres and non-alcoholic beverages will follow outside the auditorium. For licensed social workers, two free CEUs will be available. Dr. Diana M. DiNitto is the Cullen Trust Centennial Professor in Alcohol Studies and Education and a University Distinguished Teaching Professor at UT-Austin. Her areas of professional expertise include chemical dependency (alcohol and drug abuse), social welfare policy, and violence against women.

In celebration of its 20th anniversary, SELAH Ministries presents a two-day event of artistic expression through dance, poetry, pageantry, mime and music at the Columbus Performing Arts Center's Shedd Theatre, 549 Franklin Avenue, Columbus, OH. On Friday, October 23, a community concert for the whole family will be held beginning at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are Adults: $12.00/advance; $15.00/door. Children (12 years and under) and seniors (60+) are $8.00/advance; $10.00/door. On Saturday, October 24, a vintage gala will be held starting at 5:30 p.m. The event includes a reception, artistic concert, and live band. Attendees are invited to come dressed in their favorite outfit from the 50's, 60's and 70's. Tickets are Adults: $25.00/advance; $30.00/door. Seniors: $20.00/advance; $25.00/door. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Rwanda Women in Action, a Columbus-based, non-profit organization with a mission to improve the quality of life for Rwandan women, children and refugees.

This lecture will analyze the legal yardsticks applied to discrimination cases against minorities and women and reverse discrimination cases against whites with the goal of contrasting legal presumptions in the two scenarios. Professor Vincene Verdun is an Associate Professor in the Moritz College of Law at The Ohio State University. Her research has focused on critical race theory, including reparations to African-Americans. She is the advisor to the Black Law Student Association and has served on many university committees.
