Propane refrigerators can help you save energy and reduce carbon footprint without diminishing your lifestyle.

Propane refrigerator uses gas as its basic source of energy. It uses heat for burning propane that will generate the cold inside the refrigerator. You can also use this kind of refrigerator where there is no electricity available in your place. This type of refrigerator applies ammonia as the coolant and the water, ammonia and hydrogen help in the continuous cycle.

The refrigerator has five main parts that have a correlation with one another to make the refrigeration process become efficient.

• The Generator that produces ammonia gas.
• The Separator is where ammonia gas is separated from water.
• The Condenser is where hot ammonia is cooled and compressed to produce liquid ammonia.
• The Evaporator is where the liquid ammonia evaporates to produce cold temperature inside the fridge.
• The Absorber sops up the ammonia gas in water.

The refrigeration cycle using propane works like this:

• The heat coming from burning gas, kerosene, or propane is utilized in the generator.

• The generator has a solution of water and ammonia that when heated, raises the temperature to the boiling point of ammonia.

• This boiling solution will flow to the separator that will separate the water from the ammonia.

• The ammonia gas will emerge upward to the condenser that will allow the ammonia gas to disperse its heat and concentrate into liquid.

• Fluid ammonia will now proceed to the evaporator where it combines with the hydrogen gas and then evaporates and this will eventually produce cold temperatures within the refrigerator.

• The hydrogen and ammonia gases will surge to the absorber. The water that has been collected in the separator is combined with ammonia and hydrogen gas and then it will flows back to the evaporator. And this ammonia and water solution will run towards the generator to go over the cycle.

• Propane refrigerator is one of the alternatives for costly electrical refrigerators.

Here are some useful tips in purchasing propane refrigerator:

• Consider the cost and the capacity of the refrigerator you need. Propane refrigerators come in different sizes from 8 to 19 cubic feet. The location and gas consumption will also affect your decision.

• Select the type that will suit your needs. Some of these propane refrigerators can be modified to work on either electric or kerosene fuels.

• Keep in mind the accessories in your purchase of propane refrigerator. Some of these types of refrigerator require a glass shelf or deli drawer accessories. It may also come with doors and it’s up to you to decide if you will install it left or right handed.

• Study all the product brochures on different brands for comparison.

• Know about the warranties and expanded service contracts. You really need to understand what is the coverage of the warranty and if it is incorporated with your purchase or it has an extra cost.

• If you already liked a model that appeals to you, look around for the most reasonable price.

When using propane refrigerator, always be extra careful because it is highly flammable. Be sure to read and follow instructions and precautions when it comes to using and storing propane tank when it is not used. With propane refrigerator there are a lot of possibilities where you can use it like in your RV, boats, when you are on a camping, cabins and vans.
