In the public relations and marketing fields, we often find gems of individuals who for some reason have all the qualities and charisma of one who can make you believe anything he says or does. And it is also common knowledge that these same people do not really know all the details of what they speak of. But while they are speaking, you will notice majority of listeners sit up and take careful note and are mesmerized by the man himself.
As one who once taught college subjects, I soon discovered as years went by that delivering a statement or teaching a subject needs more vibrant voices and strong personality. One does not really have to know everything about a subject. He merely delivers his talks with more vigor and good presentation. Once this is done and with success it is almost sure that majority of the audience will begin to be impressed by your topic and would in time be inclined to go with you on whatever you are selling.
Is being an expert easy? One does not really have to be an expert. He only has to look and sound like one. And this is in the area of dramatic acting. Many actors in fact have been successful not only in stage and movie presentations but in commercial promotions as well. Why? Simple because the actor or actress has mastered the use of the body, and facial expression and pauses, and all these are ingredients used in public and human relations
Perhaps, many would doubt what some politicians say. We do not blame them simply because politicians by definition cannot stay away from half truths, bluffing, twisting facts and just being dishonest on many occasions. How come, one would ask, many of them who are already involved in charges of corruption and graft still get elected? The reason is their ability to act and talk like an expert. Sounding like one who is convinced is something one can learn. Again, practicing the art of acting with a camera and videotape would help a lot.
Finding an expert, a real one is easy. Many have credentials galore in their business cards and listings of service clubs. Many of these individuals are promoted as experts but are not really experts in a field. A lot of these so called experts are multi-faceted and multitalented ones. Many make it a point to know briefly the current events and subject matter that is of interest to the public. They read all magazines and newspapers seriously and pickup certain highlights that they can expound when speaking before a crowd. That is why they sound like an expert. The appearance, if I mention one, is very important when having to meet a group that you would like to talk to and sound like an expert. Choosing the proper attire consistently is important. Men who know this make it a point to wear a suit every day even if they have no specific appointment to go to. But for his public relations needs he has to be well dressed. Being careful and knowledgeable on certain things and be equipped with a good voice, and a shining personality can make one sound like an expert.
