Radiant barrier sheathing called TechShield Radiant Barried by LP is an exciting new product. I stumbled upon this product today doing some research and I thought it was a great idea. Next to windows the roofs on our homes are a huge source of energy loss. Whether you're trying to keep out the heat in the summer or keep in the heat in the winter the battle is usually fought with a roof.

LP seems to have come up with a great idea. The sheathing panel has a thin layer of aluminum adhered to it. The aluminum side goes on the inside of the house. The company suggests that 97% of radiant heat can be deflected away using this type of product. In the summer time the barrier should help deflect the suns radiant heat from entering the attic and therefore help your air conditioner work more efficiently. In the winter it should help prevent the heat from leaving the roof (this has two benefits, one being heat loss but the other being less chance of ice dams).

What I'd like to see LP do is combine this product with the same kind of product that Advantec has. This product should also count toward green building points. Hopefully we'll get to try this out sometime and I'll let you know what the verdict is.
