(NC)-Moving is stressful. Between the never-ending pile of boxes, endless to-do lists, and last-minute preparations - moving can be a rollercoaster that causes stress, headaches and back pain for even the most organized people.

To help take the edge off, here are some simple tips to make moving day manageable:

Create a checklist of everything that has to be done and its due date. Start the list up to two months before the move and keep the list on-hand so things can be added to it.

Start packing early. Start with non-essential items. Put heavier items in small boxes and lighter items in large boxes. This distributes the weight more evenly and reduces the risk of back pain. Remember to bend with your knees when lifting.

Pack a bag the day before the move with everything you'll need for the first 24 hours in the new house. Include clothes, towels, toiletries and a small first aid kit containing Band-Aids. And for headaches and back pain, include some over-the-counter pain relief, such as those in the Tylenol or Motrin line.

Enlist help. If you have family and friends who are able to lend a helping hand, take them up on the offer. Many hands make for light work, and can make the task of unpacking much more enjoyable.

For suggestions on managing your back pain and headaches, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
