Steps

  1. Click on the Start button.
  2. Open the Control Panel.
  3. Double-click on the Add/Remove Programs icon. Here, you can find any program that has been installed to your computer.
  4. Highlight the program that you wish to remove from your computer.
  5. Select Remove. This will run the software's uninstallation process.
  6. Confirm uninstallation of the appropriate software.
  7. Close the Add/Remove Programs window when you are finished.

Tips

  • If you are removing many programs at one time and are freeing up a considerable amount of space, you may want to defragment your computer to improve your computer's performance.
  • Many programs leave some user settings behind on the computer after uninstallation, in case that you decide to install the program again. If you wish to remove these files, you will have to navigate to the Program Files folder and delete the entire folder.

Warnings

  • If you try to uninstall a program that says "Uninstalling this program could damage other programs", then it is probably best not to remove it, unless you are certain that it will not affect any other programs that you use.
  • Sometimes the uninstall program will prompt you to remove "shared files" [these files often end in DLL or OCX]. It is usually safe to remove these files, especially if you have not installed any other applications since installing the application you wish to remove. If, however, you have had the application to be removed on your computer for a period of time, leave the files, just to be safe.
