San Antonio International Airport is currently undergoing construction to improve airport roads and parking areas, as well as constructing two new terminal buildings. There will be a total of 35 gates after construction is complete. There are around 260 flights daily that travel both to and from the airport. In 2006 the airport served just over 8 million passengers. There are around 20 airlines that fly to over 40 destinations. San Antonio International Airport serves both international and domestic flights. The airport has two main terminal buildings and two concourse areas. The Ticket desks at the terminals are near the boarding gates. Terminal 1 at the airport serves both international and domestic flights and has gates 1-16. Terminal 2 at the airport serves predominantly domestic airlines and has gates 29-41. There are many facilities that are located in each of the terminal buildings. San Antonio International Airport is just to the north of interstate I-40 that loops around the city of San Antonio. Also just to the west of the airport is the US-281, called San Pedro Avenue, and leads to the Wurzbach Parkway. To the east of the airport is the I-35 interstate, called the Pan Am Expressway. To the north of the airport there is Nakoma Street, Starcrest Drive, Jones-Maltsberger Road, Wetmore Road, and Thousand Oaks Drive. The traffic in San Antonio can become congested during the early morning and late afternoon rush hours so you need to give yourself plenty of times to get to the airport if you are traveling at these times, especially if you are flying internationally.

To get to the airport from the center of San Antonio drive on the Loop 1-410 heading east or west and take the Airport Boulevard exit. Follow the signs and turn into the airport grounds.

To get to the airport from the north drive on highway US-281 and get off Airport Drive exit, as you will see signs for this exit. Drive on South Terminal Drive and past two traffic lights until you enter the Parkway Entry Plaza.

To get to the airport from the south drive on interstate I-35 heading north and then merge onto highway US-281. Take the Airport Exit, which you will see signs for, and keep driving towards the car park.

To get to the airport from the east drive on Loop I-410 and head west. Take the Airport Boulevard exit and follow the signs until you get to the car park.

San Antonio International Airport offers many transportation options. Transportation options at the airport that serve the greater San Antonio area are buses, hotel shuttles, taxis and rental cars. Both terminals at the airport both have an information area and a Ground Transportation Center.

The least expensive way to travel to San Antonio and the surrounding areas are by the buses that serve the airport. The buses at the airport are the Metropolitan Transit buses and run every day on a regular schedule. There is also a city bus that gives a scenic route to San Antonio and takes around an hour depending on traffic. There are also several hotels near the airport, as well as some in the city, that offer door-to-door shuttle bus services from the airport to the hotel. These shuttle buses can be found outside the terminal buildings at the airport.

There are many taxis that are available at San Antonio International Airport that can be caught right outside the terminals. Taxis can give you an easy way to get to San Antonio and the surrounding areas. Taxi rides from the airport to the city center of San Antonio takes around 20 minutes depending on traffic. It is recommended that official airport taxis be used so that you are safe and not overcharged. The airport taximeters begin with a basic fare but there can be additional charges for late night and holiday driving and for luggage. It is a good idea to check with the driver to get the fare to your destination before you depart so there are no misunderstandings. There are some taxicabs at the airport that accept credit cards.

After you get you bags the car rental passenger pick-up at Terminal 1 is at the end of the Baggage Claim area and at Terminal 2 is near the curb of the Baggage Claim area. The car rental companies that are at the airport are Avis, Hertz, Alamo, Capps, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Thrifty, Advantage, and National. Even though there are many rental car companies it is recommended that you book your rental cars before arrival to ensure a car will be available.

There are many facilities for both passengers and guests available at San Antonio International Airport. These facilities are located in each of the terminal buildings. There are many business services, conference facilities, meeting facilities, information desks, and ATM machines. There are also game rooms, a chapel, a lost property desk, and an emergency medical treatment facility at the airport.

The airport information desks are located in Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 at the airport, near the Baggage Claim area. These airport information desks can give information such as general airport information, transportation options, directions, San Antonio tourist information and the latest departure and arrival flight times. The airport offers many businesses and banking facilities located throughout the airport. There are a few ATM machines spread throughout each of the terminals. The facilities in this area are computer modems, a for-hire conference room, and white writing boards for meetings. Many Internet and business services can also be found at the Never 2 Late Business Center, which is located in the lobby of the airport.

There are also porters available to help disabled passengers get off and to board the planes. There are free disabled parking spaces located in the parking areas. San Antonio International Airport offers many shopping and eating options for both passengers and guests. The shopping options are located in both of the terminal buildings at the airport. There are souvenir shops, retail shops, specialty shops, and newsstands. Some of the shops located at the airport are Alamo Books & Café, Swatch, Landing Gear (jewelry, clothing, and accessories), Native Texan, In Celebration of Golf, Simply Books, and Brookstone. There is also the UETA Duty Free shop located across from Gate 11 that offers many tax-free goods. There are many places in each of the terminals where you can grab something to eat and drink. There are coffee shops, restaurants, cafes, and fast food outlets at the airport. There are vending machines located throughout the airport. You can also find a wide variety of snacks at the newsstands. Just some of the eating and drinking establishments located in Terminal 1 at the airport are Alamo City Microbrewery & Grill, Blimpie Subs & Salads, Creative Croissants, Gervin's Sports Bar, Las Palapas, McDonalds, and two Starbucks coffee stands. There are quite a few parking options at San Antonio International Airport. There are over 6,000 parking spaces at the airport and are located near the terminals. There are also many disabled parking spaces that are closer the terminals. There is short-term parking, long-term parking, and economy parking available at the airport. The short-term parking is near the terminal buildings and there are per hour parking fees. At both the short-term and long-term parking areas the first 30 minutes is free. The short-term parking area is the best option to take for dropping off and picking up passengers. The long-term parking area is also close to the terminal buildings. The economy parking area is on the grounds of the airport and is serviced by shuttle buses that can take passengers directly to the entrance of the terminals.

There are many popular sporting events, festivals, and conventions in the city and the accommodations can become booked during these times. You should book your accommodations early to make sure you have a place to stay. The cheaper accommodation options are located just outside the city where you can find a wide variety of budget motels, hotels, and hostels. There are many accommodation options in the downtown area of San Antonio. Downtown is close to many of the city's attractions such as the Rivercenter mall and the Riverwalk.
