The Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport is located in the state of Georgia. Known by the acronym SAV, it provides flights into, and out of, the eastern region of the state.

SpringHill Suites is one of the largest hotels in the area, and is budget friendly. They provide free shuttle access to the airport, and a 24-hour shop on the premises. Hilton Garden Inn is a larger hotel, and has a restaurant available on site.

2. Restaurants at the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport

The airport has several restaurants located inside the terminals, as well as several restaurants adjacent to the airport. The airport is located on Airways Avenue, and Pooler Parkway, which intersects that road, has seven restaurants on it. These restaurants are a mixture of worldwide chains, and local favorites.

Local restaurants include Cancun Mexican Restaurant, Carey Hilliards, and Sam Snead's Tavern. Sam's Snead Tavern is a traditional sit down style pub, with microbrews and foods exclusive to the region. Other restaurants on Pooler Parkway include Zaxby's, Arby's, Chick-Fil-A, and Ruby Tuesday.

There are also many restaurants located inside the terminal of the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport. These are located in the food concession area on the second floor of the terminal. Dewar's Clubhouse Bar and Grille Phillips Famous Seafood are regional specialties that give travelers the chance to sit and relax before, or after their flight. Pizza Hut, Nathan's, TCBY Yogurt, and Burger King are famous chain restaurants at the airport. Other restaurants at the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport include Wolfgang Puck's, Starbucks, and a Budweiser Brew Pub.

3. Amenities Provided at the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport

Amenities provided for travelers to the Savannah International Airport include those that are completely free of charge, and those that require a small fee. These amenities were designed to make travel easier, and to make their customers lives easier.

The airport provides a business center for working travelers. The business center is located near the middle of the airport. It was designed to give travelers an easy way to conduct business without interrupting their trip. The business center has comfortable chairs, and free Internet access.

The Passport Club is accessible by membership only, with memberships beginning at $50 per person. The Passenger Club has food, as well as free newspapers, Internet access, and telephone service.

Also, located at the airport is a Visitors' Information Center. This Center is located near the baggage terminal, and provides information for those new to Savannah. Volunteers are there to provide information on local attractions, as well as answering questions from travelers.

4. Shops at the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport

The Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport provides a number of amenities for travelers, and also a host of stores. These shops are a mixture of popular chains that are available throughout the world, and those found only in that region.

Piera's Salon is open six days a week to meet the hair,and nail needs to travelers. This full-scale beauty salon closes at 6:00 p.m. every day. Calm Springs Hydro massage is unique to the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport. The chairs are located near the food concession area, and accept cash or credit cards. They allow travelers to sit in the airport, and have a quick and relaxing massage.

Paradies Gift Shop is a locally owned store that operates out of the airport. The shop sells books, food, and souvenirs from the area. The PGA Tour Shop in Savannah is very similar to those found in other airports. It sells golf themed merchandise, including prints of local golf courses. Also, located at the airport are The Oasis, Brighton Collectibles, and Sunglasses Warehouse. The Sunglasses Warehouse has a variety of sunglasses, and sunglass accessories for travelers to the airport.

5. Access to and from the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport

There are a variety of options for travelers looking to arrive at the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport. The first is by using the city bus system. The airport is a direct stop on the bus route, with several buses stopping there. The bus stop is located near the front of the terminal. The system is called the Chatham Area Transit, or simply CAT.

There are also a number of rental car agencies with offices at the airport. Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Thrifty Car Rental, and Avis Rent A Car all have offices at the airport. Other rental car agencies include Hertz Rent A Car, Budget Rent A Car, and Alamo/National Car Rental. Visitors can rent a car at the airport, or drop off their rental car.

Access to the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport, and from the airport is also available through Low Country Adventures/Gray Line. This company provides limousine service, or shuttle buses to and from the airport. The company also has handicapped buses available, though they must be reserved in advance.

Travelers can also choose taxicabs for traveling to and from the airport. Yellow Cab, Bay City Cab Company, and Scott's Taxi are just a few of the sixteen cab companies that service the area. Some travelers may prefer limousine service, and there are more than twenty companies that provide limousines for trips to and from the airport. Several hotels adjacent to the airport also provide free shuttle access for travelers. These hotels include Baymont Inn & Suites, Best Western Inn, Comfort Inn, Fairfield Inn, Holiday Inn, and Hilton Garden Inn.

6. Destinations from the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport

While the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport is one of the largest airports in the southeast region of the United States, it only has a handful of departures. Atlanta, Georgia, Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas, Detroit, Michigan, and Newark, New Jersey are all destinations accessible from the airport. Other locations that airlines in the airport fly to include Washington, D.C., New York City, New York by way of LaGuardia, and Charlotte, North Carolina.

Airlines in the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport also provide access to Houston, Texas, Chicago, Illinois, Cincinnati, Ohio, Boston, Massachusetts, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Washington State. Certain airlines such as AirTran and Delta only provide access to one location, while others fly to multiple destinations. US Airways is the airline flying to the most destinations from Savannah/Hilton Head, with five separate cities.

7. Airlines Working Out of the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport

There are currently eight airlines working out of the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport, each with their own separate destinations and counters. AirTran has three nonstop flights to Atlanta, Georgia every day and the capacity to seat 351 passengers. Delta provides eight nonstop flights to Atlanta, and can serve 1,300 passengers.

American Eagle is one of the smaller airlines operating out of the airport. The company runs two nonstop flights to Dallas/Forth Worth, Texas and can seat 100 passengers. Northwest/Airlink has only one flight every day, to Detroit, Michigan and has capacity for 125 passengers. Continental Express runs six flights every day; three to Newark, New Jersey and three to Houston, Texas. Each flight has 50 seats. United Express runs seven nonstop flights every day; three to Washington DC's Dulles Airport, and four flights to Chicago's O'Hare Airport. They have room for 256 passengers on the daily flights to Chicago, and 150 seats for the Washington, D.C. flights.

Delta Connections runs twelve flights every day out of the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport. These include four nonstop flights to New York City through LaGuardia Airport, four nonstop flights to Cincinnati, Ohio, one nonstop flight to Boston, Massachusetts, and four nonstop flights to Atlanta, Georgia. Delta has the capacity to safely transport 710 passengers every day; 200 to New York City, 200 to Cincinnati, 50 to Boston, and 260 to Atlanta.

The other large airline operating out of the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport is US Airways. They provide one daily nonstop flight to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and eight nonstop flights to Charlotte, North Carolina. They have the capacity to transport 632 passengers to Charlotte every day, and more than 50 passengers to Philadelphia. On the weekends the airline adds more flights to their itinerary. They have multiple flights to New York City, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Washington State. They can transport 250 passengers to New York City, 321 to Philadelphia, 216 to Pittsburgh, and 222 to Washington.

8. Guide to the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport Terminal

The Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport Terminal is conveniently laid out with one two-story main building. The first floor of the terminal has a city bus stop, baggage service, and the various rental car agencies that operate out of the airport. Hertz, Enterprise, Thrifty, Avis, Budget, and Alamo/National Car Rental all have counters/offices on the first floor. Also located on the first floor are ATM machines, restrooms, and vending machines.

The second floor, or top floor of the terminal is much larger and more laid out. At the front of the area is a series of ATM machines for various banks, vending machines, and restrooms. There is also one long counter where all the airlines are located. Continental Express, Northwest, United Express, Airtran, American, Delta, and US Airways are located directly beside each other. Behind that is a small area with several services and rooms for travelers. Those include the business center, the arcade, Piera's Salon, the postal center, and the PGA Tour Shop.

Directly behind that area is the central corridor. This is where the individual airline gates are located, as well as the restaurants and majority of stores. Every restaurant from Starbucks to Dewar's Clubhouse Bar and Grille, is in the central corridor. The Passport Club is also located in this corridor.

9. Directions to the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport

When driving to the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport from downtown Savannah, follow I-95 to the Exit 104; the Exit is marked as the airport exit. Then follow the signs pointing to the airport and Airways Avenue. To reach the airport from the north, take I-95 South to Exit 104. Move east onto Airways Avenue, and follow the signs pointing to the airport.

Travelers coming from the south should take I-95 North to Exit 104. This road is Airways Avenue, which will lead directly to the airport terminal. Those coming from the east should take I-16 west, to Exit 157 B-North. This will lead into I-95 north. Then follow the highway to Exit 104, which will lead directly to the airport terminal. From the west follow I-16 west to Exit 157B, which will turn into I-95 north. Then take Exit 104 to the airport.
