Sheraton Hotels and Resorts is the leading chain of upscale hotels in the United States and in 70 other countries. With around 400 locations, Sheraton offers properties that target customers who are traveling for business or for leisure and vacation. With full service accommodations, fine dining, other amenities and friendly staff, Sheraton is very confident in being able to provide customers with anything and everything they need during their stay at any of the hotel and resort locations.
Sheraton puts a very heavy emphasis on details and proving that the little things matter in order to guarantee customer satisfaction. When customers enter a Sheraton Hotel and Resort location, they are immediately approached by a greeting team member. Customers can expect kind gestures from Sheraton staff. They have taken a step forward from simply opening the door or helping with luggage to offering the morning paper without having to ask for it. Complimentary coffee and stamped postcards to send home to loved ones is another way to give Sheraton customers a warm and comfortable experience.
Ernst Henderson and Robert Moore founded Sheraton in 1937 in Springfield, Massachusetts. After two years, the team purchased three more hotels in Boston and soon expanded their company to include properties along the east coast of the US, from Maine to Florida. At the end of its first decade since its establishment, Sheraton became increasingly popular and created a reliable reputation, so much that it earned its spot in financial history becoming the first hotel chain to be listed on the New York Stock Exchange.
Sheraton wanted to expand its success to areas outside the United States and decided to turn international in 1949 by buying out two Canadian hotel chains. After this acquisition, Sheraton began its rapid growth around the world. Hotel and Resorts reached Latin America and the Middle East by the 1960s. By 1965, the company reached a milestone opening its 100th location. Sheraton reached another milestone 20 years after, in 1985 by becoming the first international hotel chain to manage a hotel. It was the Great Wall Hotel in Beijing, the People's Republic of China and was renamed, Great Wall Sheraton. Furthermore, in the early and mid 90s, it began diving itself into more specific brands. By April of 1995, Sheraton introduced Four Points by Sheraton Hotels, which was a mid-scale hotel brand that offered a full-service hotel experience at a competitive price.
Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. bought Sheraton in 1998. Starwood also owns St. Regis Hotels & Resorts, The Luxury Collection, Le Méridien, and Westin Hotels & Resorts.
