Serving Sioux Falls, Southeast South Dakota, Southwest Minnesota and Northwest Iowa, Sioux Falls Regional airport is a well-maintained modern and efficient facility. 1. Overview of Sioux Falls Regional Airport

Airlines using Sioux Falls Regional Airport include Delta Connection, United Express, Allegiant Air, Northwest Airlines and Northwest Airlink. There are non-stop flights to many cities as well as international flights from this airport. For example, there are eight non-stop flights to Minneapolis/St. Paul, five non-stop flights to Denver and five non-stop flights to Chicago every day. Also known as the Joe Foss Field, this airport is located only three miles from the business district of the city of Sioux Falls. Visitors to the city can easily rent a car at the airport or take advantage of the ground transportation to and from the city center. In the terminal, passengers and guests can enjoy a meal, relax in the lounge and shop for gifts to take with them.

Sioux Falls Regional Airport is the hub for air cargo in this region of the country. International shipments first pass through the Port of Entry office, which is located right next to the air cargo ramp. FedEx, Airborne Express and UPS are just three of the companies that use Sioux Falls Regional Airport for shipping their cargo. Parking is not a problem at this airport for either long or short term needs. Many improvements have been made to the runways at the airport. For example, Runway 15-33 is now eight thousand feet long. When you book a flight from this airport, you won't have to pay a departure tax as you do in many other airports in the country. 2. Sioux Falls Regional Airport Terminal

On the first floor of the Sioux Falls Regional Airport terminal, there is ample room for the various airline check in desks. Baggage carts are available for passengers to use when bringing their luggage into the airport. The central area of the airport contains a restaurant with ample seating. Just off the restaurant, there is a lounge where passengers can relax before the flight and say goodbye to friends and family. Here, there is also a well-stocked gift shop with magazines, books, and snack foods. Arrivals, baggage claim and car rental kiosks are located on the opposite end of the terminal from the departures area.

Security is located between the first and second floors of the terminal. On the upper level of the Sioux Falls Regional terminal there are the waiting areas for the eight departure gates. There is also a gift shop and snack bar located on this level.

3. Driving Directions to the Airport

The Sioux Falls Regional Airport is relatively easy to find, as it is located just off Interstates 90 and 29 and South Dakota Highway 38. When driving from either the north or the south, take Interstate 29 to Exit 81 at Russell Street. From here, you can easily follow the signs to the airport. When driving from the West, take Interstate 29 south to Exit 81 and follow the posted signs. From the East, take Interstate 90 to Exit 399, which is also well signed out so that you can find the airport without difficulty. This exit leads to the South Dakota Highway 38A and Benson Road, Either of these will take you directly to the airport. Since the airport is quite close to the business district, you should make sure you give yourself enough time to reach the airport, especially for international travel, which requires that you be at the airport earlier than for domestic flights. The morning and late afternoon times are rush hour traffic times, so you could encounter traffic tie-ups and congestion, causing you to rush at the airport or even be late for your flight.

4. Ground Transportation at the Airport

Several car rental agencies have kiosks located in the Sioux Falls Regional Airport. These include Avis, Hertz, Enterprise, National and Rapp Chevrolet. You can make your car rental reservations in advance so that you won't have any difficulty getting a vehicle when you arrive. During the tourist season, it is possible that you might have difficulty getting a rental car if you wait until you arrive.

There are other sources of ground transportation available at the airport as well. There are many taxis servicing the airport and the cars are parked just outside the arrivals gate at the terminal. These taxi services include Yellow Cab, City Wide Taxi and Sioux Falls Taxi. If you prefer limousine services, there are several companies offering this type of service, such as Airport Limo, Black Tie Limo or Royal Limo. Usually there is a standard fee for the taxi service to the business district of the city where the majority of hotels are located, but you should check this out before you engage the taxi. It is best to use only company taxis for safety reasons. There may be additional charges involved if you travel late at night and for handling your luggage.

Many of the hotels in Sioux Falls also provide free shuttle service to and from the airport if you are staying at that hotel. They also offer courtesy cars that will have someone waiting for you when you arrive to drive you to your hotel. Charter bus services are also available for large groups. 5. Facilities Available at Sioux Falls Regional Airport

Since Sioux Falls Regional Airport is not a large airport, there are not a lot of stores and restaurants in the terminal. However, they are sufficient for the number of passengers using the terminal at any one time. The main restaurant is located on the lower level of the terminal. Here you will be able to have a full meal or a light snack in comfortable surroundings. The restaurant is quite cozy allowing you to chat with your friends or fellow passengers.

If you want to enjoy a drink, you can relax in the lounge, which is adjacent to the restaurant. Children traveling can pass the time at the arcade, which is well stocked with the latest games in the coin-operated machines. For those wishing to purchase a few souvenirs to take home, snacks, or magazines, newspapers or books to read on the flight, the gift shop on this level has everything you need.

6. More Facilities

The airport has Information services throughout the terminal to provide you with answers to any questions you might and have and to help you with any problems finding hotel accommodations or ground transportation. There is also access to washrooms for the disabled and wheelchairs are available for those who need them. The airport also offers conference facilities in its business centre. Wireless Internet Access is available at the airport so you can check your email and continue working on your business while waiting for your flight to arrive or depart. ATM machines are also located in both levels of the terminal. Arrival and departure signage is easy to see when you want to check whether or not your flight is on time.

Once you pass through security to reach your departure gate, you won't have much difficulty finding the correct gate. The terminal follows a corridor with the gates numbered one through eight easily visible on each side. The waiting areas are large, providing passengers with ample room to await their flights in comfort. On this level, there is a snack bar and a gift shop where you can grab a drink or snack and buy some last-minute items.

7. Parking at the Airport

The parking areas of Sioux Falls Regional Airport are located directly across from the terminal. There are two entrances to each of the parking area depending on your need for short or long-term parking. The parking lots are lighted and are staffed 24 hours a day, so no matter what time you arrive or depart, you will have access to your vehicle. The cost of parking at this airport is quite reasonable. While stays of less than thirty minutes do not apply to the long-term area, it only costs $0.75 for stays of thirty minutes or less in the short-term area. Hour long stays cost $1.50 in the short-term parking lot with each additional hour costing $1.50. If you need to spend a day at the airport, it will cost you $8.50 for the day in the short term parking area. At the long-term parking lot it costs $1.00 per hour. The parking fees for a day are only $4.50 and parking your vehicle here for a week costs $24.00. There is no need to wait for a shuttle to take you from the parking lot to the airport, as the lot is only a short walk from the terminal.

8. Accommodations Near the Airport

There are many options for accommodation quite close to Sioux Falls Regional Airport. Most of the hotels have courtesy cars available for passengers with reservations at specific hotels. You can make arrangements prior to your arrival to have one of these cars waiting for you when you arrive. The hotels also offer services for driving you to the airport when your stay in Sioux Falls is over.

Days Inn is located on Benson Road, which is quite close to the airport, and offers many amenities to make your stay in Sioux Falls an enjoyable one. Also quite close to the airport is Ramada Inn, located on Russell Street. Some of the other hotels you can choose for your visit to the city include the Brimark Inn, the Holiday Inn, The Oaks, Best Western Ramkota Inn, Ramada Unlimited, Sleep Inn, Club House Hotel and Suites, Sheraton Sioux Falls and Quality Inn. Each of these locations have exciting amenities, such as free breakfast, swimming pool and exercise facilities as well as being located conveniently close to all that Sioux Falls has to offer. Enjoy a delicious meal before heading out to enjoy nightlife or relax in the comfort of your room. The prices for the accommodations at these hotels vary during different times of the year. During the summer, the prices are higher as this is the tourist season. Rates during the off-season are generally much lower. When you arrive at Sioux Falls Regional Airport and are planning to stay overnight, take advantage of the opportunity to see what this city has to offer its visitors. In the center of the city, you can see the waterfalls that give the city its name. The Falls of the Big Sioux River are located at Falls Park and there are platforms, which provide you with a spectacular view. Learn about the history of the region with a visit to the Old Courthouse Museum. Gaze at the architecture of the Washington Pavilion of Arts and Science built from quartzite, which is quarried in Sioux Falls. Stroll through the historic district and browse the unique items available in the many shops along the way. You might like to take a walking tour to see many of the historic homes in the city. Taste the handcrafted beer at the Mad Rock Pub or dine at one of the many fantastic restaurants in the city. See timeless native art, go for a hayride in an orchard or take some time to indulge in shopping at the Empire Mall. This is the largest shopping mall between Denver and Minneapolis with 180 stores.
