Of course, you want to dress your puppy in cute dog clothes and of course, you want to play with it, but you ll find another part of being a responsible dog owner is going to be house training your puppy! If you want to get to a point when your puppy can tell you when he needs to go outside, you ll find that there are definitely some things that you are going to need to think about. When you want to house train your puppy, take some time to keep the following tips in mind.

The first thing that you should consider when you want to house train you puppy is that you do not want to punish him for making messes unless you catch him in the act. If you have a puppy, just assume that he is going to be making messes. After all, he is a baby, and you ll find that expecting him to do otherwise is unreasonable. If you don t catch him in the act, he will have no idea what you are punishing him for. Make sure that you do not stress your new puppy out unduly by scolding him for something when he has no idea what he did wrong!

One great method that you can start with when you are house training a puppy is to figure out what signals he uses to let you know that he needs to go out. For instance, when you see your puppy walking around and sniffing intently at the floor, this usually means that a mess is imminent, and that you should take some time to put him outside. When you have done so and when he has defecated or urinated in the right place, remember that you should definitely take the time to praise him. Eventually, he will start to associate praise with one location and scolding with another one. This is when progress can be made.

When you want to house train your puppy, also keep in mind that they are going to need to go outside at regular intervals. Especially when you are dealing with a very young dog, make sure that you know what their needs are going to be and figure out what their schedule is going to be like. For instance, most dogs will need to go out after they wake up in the morning or after their nap. They are also going to need to go out within half an hour after they eat and then again before they go to sleep. Remember that puppies especially are going to be governed by this system and that you should take some time to make sure that you can stick with it.

These are just some basic rules to get you started when you are thinking about house training your puppy. Take some time to really consider what your options are going to be and what you can do to encourage your puppy to please you. Always remember that a puppy has a lot to deal with when he first comes to your home, so be understanding!
