With the emergence of faster Internet connections and accessibility available all over the globe, more and more people are getting connected to the World Wide Web. The number of Internet users is growing exponentially by the day, and some computer hardware and peripherals are getting increasingly cheaper to make. Laptops are becoming more popular, and ultra mobile PCs have begun to take the lead in the consumer market. Wireless Internet connections are readily available, and a good number of homes all over the world have wireless connections in them, allowing easier access to users.

With all the freedom that comes with being able to surf the Internet and connect with others instantly at the touch of a button, one of the more important causes for concern is the security of your own PC. Often, people are so excited to connect to the Internet and be able to use it and download software that they rarely give a second thought to viruses, Trojans, malware and the like. One of the more recent virus attacks affected computers on a global scale, replicating itself and sending itself out to each interconnected computer on the web. In this type of situation, people begin to think about their own Internet security software, and whether or not it is doing its job.

The first thing you will need to know about Internet security software is that it is all about intrusion prevention and systems hardening. You want to build your computer system in such a way that it sends and receives data in a straightforward fashion, while keeping unwanted programs and malicious data from entering. That being said, there are a number of Internet security companies out there who are able to offer security solutions for all types of needs, whether it be for personal or business use.

Some of the more famous companies that have established names for themselves are McAfee and Norton, who have made their business the design and development of Internet security suites, all in one system that help keep your computer safe from malicious intrusion. Bear in mind, however, that products from these companies are available at a price you may be able to download trial versions, but once the license expires, you will need to purchase a new one. Internet security programs are only as good as their most recent update, since viruses are evolving in response to the normal countermeasures against them, It is always a good idea to regularly update your Internet security software, so you will be protected against the most recent types of malware and viruses.

On the open-source end, you may also want to try downloading AVG. AVG is an Internet security system that is completely free for download and use. IT is constantly updated by a community of Internet security developers, and should have the latest ways on how to prevent system intrusion. The downside to using AVG, however, is the lack of technical support available, and new releases often come later and in less frequency than those provided my either Norton or McAfee.
