A Strategy for Building Sales When you Open a Dollar Store

Building sales ever-higher is one of the most pressing tasks faced by everyone who decides to open a dollar store. It generally takes a variety of tactics to successfully achieve the desired sales targets. While one of the easiest ways to generate higher traffic and sales is to advertise on television, radio and in the local newspaper, these options cost money. There are other low-cost options that involved simply buying and merchandising the products you carry properly. In this article I present a strategy for building sales when you open a dollar store.

One of the real keys to building sales levels when you open a dollar store is to examine pairing items during the buying process. This easy strategy adds just a few minutes to the buying process, but will add sales to your store as soon as the items are displayed. It involved pairing different, complementary products whenever you make purchases. Let’s examine a couple of examples to see how this works.

You decide to open a dollar store. All is going well. As spring approaches you might be thinking about adding a display of garden seeds. However, the smallest display comes with one-thousand packages of seeds. Given your store size and the many less popular seeds in the display you are thinking you won’t be able to make the purchase. Yet customers are asking when the seeds will be arriving. Using the pairing of complementary items concept you might want to rethink the decision not to bring in a garden seed display. What if you could use the seeds to build other complementary sales? Since seeds are only a few cents per package, why not bring in the seeds and sell them for a ridiculously low price? Focus your profits on the add-on sales. Surround the seed display with garden tools, gloves, kneeling pads, garden decorations and other gardening items. Customers arrive for the seeds and walk out with a water hose nozzle, a couple of gardening hand tools and a cute little statue.

Let’s examine another example. How about silk flowers? Silk flowers sell well throughout the year. However there are some holidays where they will definitely be in demand. Make your silk flower buying as focused on the vases as it is on flowers. A great assortment of silk flowers opens the door for a wide variety of vases to be sold. Display the vases directly next to the flowers. Add a small sign reminding shoppers about the great assortment of vases in your store and many will add a vase to their purchase.

Think about the pairing of complementary products when you open a dollar store. This process can be repeated everywhere in your store. It is impossible to use this pairing of complementary products in all cases. There are just too many different products, and there’s certainly not enough time in the day to do it every time. However, if your goal is to grow sales, pairing complementary products can contribute to overall sales.

To your success when you open a dollar store!
