Stihl Offers Mobile Marketing
Stihl Inc. has introduced a new way to communicate with Stihl dealers and product owners with the launch of the Stihl Mobile Community—the first known campaign of its kind in the outdoor power equipment (OPE) industry.
With the number of mobile devices in the U.S. outnumbering computers by nearly four times, Stihl plans to communicate with a new generation of customers through mobile marketing. "Research indicates that 63 percent of cell phone owners ages 18-27 use text messaging," said Ken Waldron, national marketing manager for Stihl Inc. "Stihl is excited to be the first in the OPE industry to reach out to this new generation of consumers through mobile marketing."
Mobile messaging will allow Stihl to instantly connect to dealers, professional users and consumers. By texting the CXPO to 78445 (Stihl), texters can join the Stihl Mobile Community and receive the latest information from Stihl on their cell phone or mobile device.
As part of the mobile initiative, Stihl has built a special mobile-optimized website, or Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) site, at stihlusa.mobi. Subscribers are encouraged to gather more knowledge on the text message subject matter by visiting the WAP site.
John Deere Launches Skid Steer Smackdown
John Deere Construction & Forestry has launched the first part of an integrated campaign for skid steer users that involves unique head-to-head contests between Deere and competitor machines.
Skidsteersmackdown.com is a highly interactive site that features competitions captured on video, a discussion forum, buying information, product comparisons and more.
Deere engineers transformed a dirt track in North Carolina into a skid-steer loader proving ground, complete with professional operators and compelling contests, all while cameras rolled and spectators looked on. The site's interactive components allow users to pick the Deere machines they'd like to see compared to other units. The videos—showing tasks with measurable results—can then be rated, commented on, and shared with friends and colleagues.
