2 . Techno Music - Overview

There are many different types of music that are popular among the masses. One of the most popular types of music for people that go out and party is techno music. Techno music is a type of music that is made with electronic sounds and devices. In pure techno music, there are not vocalizations or sounds that are made by anything other than electronic devices. It started to become popular in certain music and social scenes after its creation, which is said to have taken place in the 1980’s outside of Detroit. Over the course of time the music has evolved, as all music genres do, but it has managed to hang on to the key elements that define the particular genre throughout the years. These key elements are the synthetic sounds that are created by the music producers that work on the tracks of the techno music discs.

Some very popular musicians have incorporated different aspects of techno music into their own music, and the results have been successful and well received for the most part. For example, Madonna’s “Ray of Light” incorporates a great deal of techno music aspects, and the song was a big hit among critics and individuals alike. People enjoyed being able to listen to music that was new and different, but which also had vocalized elements tied in that they could sing along with. There are other popular musicians and artists who use elements of techno music in their vocalized work, but the majority of techno artists that are listened to by techno music enthusiasts are pure in their element.

This particular style of music is typically either loved or hated by individuals. Many people have commented on the observation that there is no middle ground when it comes to techno music and the artists who create the music. Some people appreciate the beats and other people are turned off by the music. It is dependent upon the individual, as most types of music preference are. However, it is very rare that a person will appreciate an artist and not the genre. This is because the premise is mostly the same and a person has to have an appreciation for the fundamentals of the music before they can appreciate the individuals who create the music.

3 . History

Three men outside of Detroit are credited with the creation of Techno music. They were known as “The Belleville Three” and were attending college at the time of their creation. The three friends from high school were Juan Atkins, Kevin Saunderson, and Derrick May. They were inspired by a popular radio show during the time and went on to perform different works with electronic sounds as music. It started out as dance music; the men wanted to be able to promote a dance music that people could enjoy, and they wanted people to just get lost inside of the beats. The music tapes that were created by these men were circulated around and eventually they found their way to The Music Institute in downtown Detroit. Here, several investors began to take a deep interest in the music and the club helped to expand the nature of the music. Themes for the music began to take on more science fiction aspects. As the themes expanded and technology advanced, there were new and different sounds that could be explored by the producers of techno music beats. These advanced sounds have worked to help the genre evolve in general.

In 1988, the term techno began to be formally used to describe the genre of music that was created when synthesized music was created. When this genre was finally defined, it began to be used to label works of art that dated back as far as 1977. However, it is still the three men from Detroit who are given the credit of creating the music and designing it to be enjoyed by the masses. The genre was and still is pushed forward by different types of people from different races. However, most of mainstream America is not aware of the fact that many of the songs are promoted by black musicians. There are more similarities between the fundamentals of jazz and blues and techno music than many people are aware. The roots of these many different types of music are far more similar than many people would have initially anticipated.

4 . Notable Artists

Like with every genre of music, there are a number of techno music artists who stand out as the elitists of their categories. Some of the most popular artists in the techno music genre include the originators of the music, credited to Kevin Saunderson, Derrick May and Juan Atkins. There was a second wave of producers of techno music and some of the most important artists from this time period, from 1988-1990 include John Acquaviva, Drexciya, Jeff Mills, Stacey Pullen, and Eon. These are some of the most popular techno artists, but there are many different artists that are liked. These are some of the more current techno producers and there are many from the past that are still used as well, since techno music is fairly timeless.

Eddie Fowlkes is an artist that many people argue could be one of the original creators of the genre as well. Still others argue that Robert Hood is an interpreter of the music, rather than one who created and defined the music. Nonetheless, these are two artists that are also important to the techno music scene. There are still other artists who are considered more mainstream that have worked to help promote techno music by incorporating aspects of it into their vocalized music. Some of these artists include Madonna and Moby. These are popular pop artists, but they have created songs with the help of their producers that take on the elements of techno music and introduce that style of music to the masses. It is important to notice these artists because of their ability to turn people toward the genre and show them something that they might not have otherwise known existed. As a result, they are included in the notable artists of the techno music genre because of their commitment to the style of music.
