Online educations are becoming more popular with advances in technology. Yet some still prefer the traditional educational system. Both have advantages and disadvantages. What are the pros and cons of learning online? Read on to decide whether online learning is the right type of education for you.

STEP 1:

Online learning isn't run by a definite schedule. Perhaps the best pro of online learning is that it is flexible. There is no specific time when you have to commit to do your online learning. Get your education when it's convenient for you. You can post comments on your group chat forum at midnight, after work, or at 3:00 a.m. when you just can't sleep. Time doesn't matter when you're learning online. Similarly, if you have an appointment or you aren't available to study during normal school hours, it matters not. You can watch a recorded webcast of any class that you missed so that you never feel like you've missed an important lesson. Likewise, you can contact your professor with questions using email, which means your cell phone, library computer or laptop will all allow you access to your online learning community. You can stay in touch wherever you are and at whatever time works best for you. Online learning is all about convenience.

STEP 2:

The social aspect just isn't there. One of the few cons of online learning is that as a student, you'll miss out on the lighter side of getting an education. That is, you won't get to socialize or laugh with your classmates before class starts, you won't form friendships with your dorm mates, and you won't have a graduation day to recognize your accomplishments. Truly, you'll just be a name on a computer screen, known only for the words you type. Your personality does not come through in an online learning environment, so few relationships are formed.

STEP 3:

There is little pressure. Online learning offers so much flexibility that it is sometimes too lenient. Students feel no pressure to focus on their studies when they're learning from the comforts of their own living room. With no schedule, time never has to be devoted to learning, which can lead some students to underperform. It's hard to commit to an online learning community because all of the responsibility to stay involved and on track lies on the student. No peers, professors or schedules will keep you in line when you're learning online.Online learning has its pros and cons, but if it's the only opportunity available to you to get an education, then don't even give it a second thought. Your education is important to improving your career options, your self-esteem and your life in general. So whether it's online learning or classroom learning, get your education any way you can.
