Tips for Advertising through DRTV

Author: Robert

Direct response TV is a wonderful advertising medium for companies interested in marketing their products to thousands of people simultaneously. This particular advertising medium was developed during the 1980s; however it reached super popularity during the 1990s and since has held its ground as a wonderful method for advertising certain products.

When direct response TV first began it not only offered products through the infomercial, but also often in retail stores. Being able to contact the advertiser through the information provided in a commercial is what separates typical commercials from infomercials. In most cases an 800 number is posted, but email address and websites are becoming more popular, too. Most people are aware of what infomercials are and probably have watched many over the years. In fact, most people can quickly recall a favorite infomercial or one that inspired them to buy a particular product. Direct response TV advertising is not just for small companies and newly invented products. Instead, big companies also advertise through this medium including Rubbermaid, DuPont, Bissell, Toyota, and Sears.

In most cases, big companies are not as concerned about selling the product during the actual airing of the infomercial. Instead, their main goal is to create leads. By providing a website or phone number consumers are able to learn more about a specific product or service and create leads the company can follow up on. Leads frequently resulted in sales through direct mail, retail stores, or even phone operators. Two examples that use this method to create leads and increase their customer base include Dish Network and DirecTV.

An important element in direct response TV is the campaign and how effective it is. That includes determining the target market and showing the ad when they are most likely watching TV. Many studies have been conducted to determine when certain people are watching TV so this information can be used to help you decide when to air your infomercial.
