A desktop set is a desktop set - or so you might think. However that does not stop the various manufacturers of such peripherals trying to make their product stand out from the rest of the competition. There are wired or wireless units; mice that use a ball or optical technology; and keyboards with Internet or multimedia specific keys. Trust has put together a selection of these features with just a dash of colour in creating its 3010A Wireless Deskset.

As is apparent from its title, this is a wireless keyboard and mouse. The silver and black coloured receiver unit connects to the PS/2 mouse and keyboard sockets on the computer. A raised button on the top of the receiver is used to activate the recognition process while a LED glows green for power and flashes either green or red when the keyboard or mouse is accessed.

The predominately black keyboard is slightly thinner than usual although the other dimensions are standard. Trust has opted to stick with function keys that have a single task and has not included a wrist rest. However you do get nineteen extra keys running along the top of the board. These keys are for multimedia and Internet tasks plus quick access buttons for opening My Computer, Calculator and Media Player. While these additional buttons are coloured silver to make them stand out from the black standard keyboard layout, Trust has also included a purple key that is used for switching to Standby mode.

Purple also features on the mouse by being the colour of the wheel. This black and silver rodent adopts the all-in-one top with no separate button sections to mar the smooth finish. Its shape is suitable for right and left handed users.

Power is provided for the keyboard and mouse by two AA and two AAA batteries respectively. A small light on the keyboard provides advanced warning when battery power is low. This wireless desktop is well worth considering.
