Crystals have been used for numerous purposes, the most common being for the use of feng shui. The goal of using crystal in feng shui is to create good chi (energy) in your home. Placing feng shui crystals in the home or office may create an atmosphere of peace and tranquility because each crystal adjusts to the energy field of the user, matching it with the energy field of the universe.

The first step to using feng shui crystals is to choose the right crystals. Since laboratory grown crystals have usually been dyed to the color, natural crystals are recommended. It's also imperative that the crystals no be radiated, since the process is believed to change the natural energy of the crystals. Next, clean the crystals. This can be done in either a salt water solution or pure water, although most feng shui stores recommend using a singing bowl. Cleaning the crystals resets their vibrations and makes them more receptive to a new home; crystals should also be cleansed regularly and treated with respect.

Completely round crystals are better than prism-shaped or geometric crystals, since they allow the chi to travel equally around the sphere and into the entire room. The most effective way to hang a crystal is directly from the ceiling. When hanging a crystal from the ceiling, hang it from something red, such as a red string. Red is the most auspicious and powerful color in feng shui. The string should also be cut in increments of nine inches, since nine is a special number in feng shui, since it represents maximum power.

Each color of crystal has a specific use associated with a specific energy. A rose-colored crystal will attract love and romance, whereas a green-colored crystal attracts wealth, prosperity, and abundance. The placement of the crystals is also important. Every room can be divided into different baquas. Each baqua corresponds with an aspect of life, such as love, wealth, career, and fame. To maximize the effects of the crystals, hang them in their proper baqua areas. A rose-colored crystal should be hung in the southwest area of the room (the love baqua), so as to promote love and romance.

The knowledge of crystals is ancient, and has been around since at least 400 BC. The early writings of Sanskrit make observations about the origin and use of crystals. Theories about Atlantis also make extensive reference to crystals. Crystals have been shown to have a piezoelectric effect, that is, they have the ability to generate an electrical potential. Many people have found that the use of crystals in their home or office has changed the whole energy of their house, and improved their relations with others.
