Vaulted Ceiling Insulation

A great basement-finishing product that insulates and neatly finishes basement walls has taken on a second role as a simple and effective way to insulate and finish vaulted ceilings. It took one imaginative homeowner in northern Ontario to discover this new application for the Barricade system. The beauty of the product is that homeowners can complete projects themselves.

The homeowner was researching online to learn how to insulate a vaulted ceiling for his vacation property and discovered the Barricade insulated wall panel system. Although it is designed as a basement finishing solution to eliminate the need to stud perimeter walls and provide up to R12 insulation for concrete walls, the homeowner was intrigued and thought that the Barricade basement finishing system could also adaptable for vaulted ceilings.

Vaulted ceilings are a challenge to insulate properly. A typical solution is to inject polyurethane foam insulation between the roof and ceiling cavity, requiring specialized equipment and the services of a certified insulation contractor. This can be expensive and time consuming. The homeowner was looking for a solution that he could install himself as a dedicated DIYer. After conferring with his local building inspector, the homeowner got the green light to proceed with the Barricade basement finishing system.

The Barricade insulated wall panel not only provided the insulation the homeowner wanted for his vaulted ceiling, it also gave a secure nailing surface for the tongue-and-groove cedar ceiling. The homeowner avoided the expense and delay of an insulating contractor, and was able to insulate and finish the ceiling in three days.

Perhaps the Barricade basement finishing system for basement walls should really be called an insulating wall and vaulted ceiling system.
