This signaling unity enables businesses to eliminate costly surplus phone lines and other equipment as well as duck long-distance tolls, since calls can be carried over the Internet rather than through, say, AT&T’s long-distance lines. In addition, upgrades to a VoIP-based communications system can be software- rather than hardware-based.
