Website hosting is the place where your website files are stored, and where your personal or business website can be seen by others, and updated either by you or the business that you employ to maintain it. Though it is always possible to build your own website, if it just sits on your own computer and is not connected to the Internet in some way, it can’t be seen by others. A certain service will “host” your site, so that it can be out there for others to see. This is where a website host comes in, and there are plenty to choose from, and plenty of ways in which your website can be hosted. Simple in its definition, the details behind website hosting can be complicated, and usually take a lot of work in order for your website to be everything that you want it to be. This includes having the right type of server, and either knowing the intricacies of maintaining your website yourself, or finding the right server to meet your needs.

3 . What you get from website hosting

Let’s say, for example, that you have a business in Indiana and you would like to expand that business to the Internet. Most of the businesses these days, from the largest to the smallest, have expanded to having an Internet presence. In this day of Internet technology, more and more people are turning to the Internet to find the things that they need, and even if you don’t want to sell services or products directly from the Internet, it’s still a good idea to advertise them there. If you have no idea what to do when it comes to building and maintaining an Internet website that will provide you with the results you want, then you need to be in the market for web hosting. There are books available that will teach you how to build and maintain a personal website, and these can usually suffice when the website is for family and friends, but working with a professional web hosting service, especially if it includes a service that can build your Internet website from the ground up, is much better when there is a business involved. Web hosting takes a lot of the stress out of day-to-day maintenance, and with a good service it will keep you updated on changes that may need to be made in order for you to keep up with the competition.

4 . Free website hosting

Website hosting does not always have to cost money, but the old adage does often apply in this case: you get what you pay for. One of the major factors that have to considered with free web hosting is that you will almost always have to include the name of your web hosting company in your website address. This can often be confusing to those who are looking for a specific business in Indiana, but when it is a personal website, this is usually not a problem. Your Internet service provider will usually provide you with enough web space for your own personal website, which technically makes your Internet service provider your web host provider, as well. For instance, if you make a website using the allocation that your Internet service provider affords you, and you want your website to be called “Jane’s page,” and your Internet service provider’s name is “ABC,” then the URL of your website will most likely be “www.ABC/Jane’s site.” A free web hosting service will also most likely give you the tools for building your website, and provide you with the server, but after that you are usually pretty much on your own. All updates to the website will be your responsibility, and you will also be responsible for making sure that all links and pages on the website are working properly.
