Wedding Dress

Designer wedding dresses come in an assortment of colors, styles, and fabrics. Brides will have quite a task when it comes time to choose their gown. Every gown has different features as unique as the bride herself!

1. Designer Wedding

For those brides that have always dreamed of having a designer wedding, the perfect designer wedding dress is obtainable. To find the gown of your dreams you will need to do some considerable research. Start by viewing gowns on the Internet made by popular designers. Also, invest in some bridal magazines and spend some time flipping through the pages to determine what styles you like, what colors you may like and to determine what you want your dress to look like.

Top wedding designers often have websites that offer their creations. There are hundreds of wedding designers to choose from. A bride may want to have her mother or her maid or matron of honor assist her in the task of finding the perfect wedding gown. Having someone you can confide in is especially important when planning a wedding: they can give you feedback on how a dress looks on you.

Even if you are planning a budget wedding, you can still get the dress of your dreams. If you find a creation that is made by a designer but the price tag is a bit much, take the picture to the local bridal shop and explain your situation. Tell them you want a dress that looks like the photo but you don't want to pay the hefty price tag. You would be surprised at the similar dresses you will find within your price range.

When shopping for a designer bridal gown it is a good idea to choose several different dresses before buying. Why is this necessary? Quite frankly, if a dress does not do well, it can be discontinued during the same season it was created. If a bride sets her heart on one dress she may find herself quite disappointed. Yet, even if a dress is discontinued the bride may be fortunate enough to find a dress strikingly similar. Taking a picture to the local bridal shop, someone may be able to find a dress that looks just like the one you fell in love with.

There are hundreds of designers that make new wedding dresses all of the time. When one dress is discontinued, another, even savvier dress appears. The hardest task a bride has is in choosing her dress: the dress is to be worn on the biggest day of her life.

2. Bridal Dress Styles

A bride can get a bridal dress in almost any style imaginable. Depending upon how formal the wedding is, the bride may choose a floor length bridal dress or a dress that is cut to the knee. Also, a bridal dress will be selected depending upon the body type of the bride: the goal is to choose a dress that will compliment the natural contours of a bride's body.

A bridal dress that is an a-line is a dress that compliments the upper torso and does not bring too much attention to the area of the waist. The dress flares at the bottom into a gentle bell shape. This dress is ideal for the bride that is self conscious about her waist line as it draws attention away from the waist and toward the upper torso area. For the bride looking to have a fairy tale wedding, the ball gown wedding gown is the ideal choice. Like the a-line bridal dress, the gown does not draw too much attention to the waist. Rather, the dress compliments the upper torso area and streamlines the area below the waist.

For women that are extremely worried about the waistline, an empire gown proves ideal. The bridal dress does not accentuate the waist at all, and the bust line is more defined because the bottom of the gown meets the top of the gown above the mid-section. Alternatively, for a bride that is looking for a sleek and sensual bridal dress, the sheath bridal gown is perfect. Such a gown clings to the body and compliments the natural curves of the bride wearing it.

A bridal dress can be purchased that is made from different fabrics and materials and in different styles. The choice is totally up to the bride, but a dream gown is available! What kind of options does a bride have when it comes to a wedding dress?

Many wedding gowns have lace as part of their design. There are different types of lace that a bride can choose from. The types of lace that are available include Alencon, Brussels Lace, Chantilly, Cluny Lace, Schiffli Lace, and Venice Lace. Each style of lace is made differently and the intricacy of the lace varies.

The list of fabrics that a bridal dress can be made of is rather extensive. Gowns and dresses may be crafted out one or more of the following: Batiste, Brocade, Channuese, Chiffon, Chintz, Cotton, Crepe, Crinoline, English Net, Eyelet, Faille, Georgette, Illusion, Jersey, Lace, Linen, Moire, Net, Nylon, Organdy, Pique, Rayon, Satin, Silk, Tafleta, Tulle, Velvet, and Voile. The fabric selection will depend upon the season the wedding is being held in and whether or not the bride has any allergies to a particular fabric. Short of such considerations, the choice is limitless.

Dress lengths also vary when it comes to designer wedding dresses. Some dresses are cut so they hang just above or below the kneecaps, still other dresses hang to the wearer's ankle. Some women prefer dresses that hang a few inches below the knee and above the ankle area. Meanwhile, a bridal dress may touch the floor if the bride prefers.

Another consideration that brides will have to deal with when choosing a bridal dress for their wedding day is the type of collar and neckline they would like to have on their wedding dress. Some dresses have a collar, but most do not. The collar can either stand upright or it can be attached to the hem of the back of the neckline and it appears as a shawl.

Necklines are another matter entirely. Some necklines are high, revealing nothing and covering the neck entirely, while others are low cut revealing some of the breast area. The bride will need to decide what they are comfortable in and it is a good idea to try out several dresses with different necklines to see how they look and feel.

Some bridal dresses are sleeveless and others have sleeves. Some sleeves can be short, some extend the length of the arm and still other sleeves extend to the hand. Winter weddings typically involve wedding dresses with long sleeves and shawls while summer weddings are suitable for sleeveless or off the shoulder bridal dresses.

The length of the train on the dress is yet another consideration. Bridal dresses are made that have trains that are extensively long, reminiscent of Princess Diana, or there are trains that are short. Meanwhile, trains can be attached to the waist of a dress and other trains are attached to the shoulders.

3. Bridesmaid and Mom Dresses

When it comes time for the bride to choose a bridesmaid dress she should take into consideration the preferences of her bridesmaids. It is a good idea if the entire wedding party can get together and talk about the different options. While the bride may want to be totally decisive on the color of the dresses, she can certainly be more flexible about the dress's style.

Most bridesmaid dresses are worn one time and never worn again. To make a bridesmaid dress truly functional, a bride may want to choose a design that is plain and simple, making the dress something that can be worn again on other occasions, or they may want to get dresses that are easy enough to alter for reuse.

The bridesmaids are certain to all have different skin types and tones. You will want to select dresses that compliment the skin tones of all of the bridesmaids. Likewise, you will want to keep differing body types in mind when it comes to dress selection. An off the shoulder dress may look fine on one of the bridesmaids and awful on another. Likewise, tight fitting dresses do no compliment every body type.

Mothers of the bride and mothers of the groom want to look attractive at the wedding just as much as the couple getting married does. What's important to remember is that no one should outshine the bride. Keeping dresses simple but elegant is a must. Dresses appropriate for mothers are available at bridal shops, but they can also be ordered online.

The dresses that mothers' wear should compliment those of the wedding party. If the wedding is formal then the mothers' gown should be equally formal. If the wedding is a bit more casual, then the style of dress will ultimately be different. Remember, the wedding is a gathering where many people that are becoming a family will be meeting the first time: it's important to make a good impression the first time round!

If the dresses are ordered online it is imperative that the order be placed early on. First, if there is a mistake in the order or delay in shipping it could complicate matters. Also, the dress will need to be tried on for size. If the dress needs resizing it will have to be altered. The mother of the bride and the mother of the groom will need to make ample arrangements for sizing and fitting. No one wants to be rushed looking for a gown just before the wedding.

4. Bridal Accessories

Just as the perfect dress is needed for your wedding, you are going to need the right bridal accessories to compliment your gown. What kind of bridal accessories are available? Moreover, how do you choose the right bridal accessories to match your designer bridal gown?

First, you must choose among the accessories available. What kind of bridal accessories are you looking for? Bridal accessories include bridal jewelry, hair accessories, garters, tiaras, veils, gloves, purses, wraps, shawls, and handkerchiefs. Of that list, you will want to decide if you want to use a tiara or a veil, or if you want hair accessories in addition to the use of a tiara of veil. You may want to wear gloves, particularly if the weather is chilly on your wedding day and no bride should be without a handkerchief to wipe away the tears of joy that often erupt at weddings.

Consider your designer bridal gown and the color you have chosen. If you have chosen an off white gown then the handbag you choose, if you select one, is going to need to match your gown. Try to match the material of your handbag with the material that is on your gown. For example, if you have a really lacey gown, you are going to want and equally lacey handbag. If your dress is made of satin, than choose a handbag made of satin with the same coloring. Remember, the designer wedding dress is the principle element of your attire on your wedding day-all things that you choose to accessorize with should compliment the dress and not take away from it.

When choosing wedding shoes there is one important factor you need to keep in mind. On your wedding day the shoes you choose are going to need to carry you, and comfortably so. You are going to be walking down the aisle in the shoes you select, and you may find yourself dancing quite a bit at the reception. Therefore, comfort is a must in terms of considerations when it comes time to choose shoes.

Wedding shoes should again, match the designer bridal gown. Brides often aim for getting similar material in the shoe as is found in their gown, but not always. Lacey shoes can give an interesting contrast to a satin designer bridal gown and vice versa. The style of shoe is not of much consequence, as long as it doesn't subtract from the overall look of the bridal wear. Pointed tips or rounded tips are fine, whatever is more to your liking.

A moderate heel, if you are comfortable in heels, is adequate. In contrast, some women are more comfortable in flats. As an alternative, some brides get heeled shoes for the wedding and an extra pair of flat shoes for the reception and dancing. Ultimately, the choice is up to you.

5. Wedding Dress Tips

You want the perfect wedding dress, so you have made it a major focus of your pre-wedding planning. There are some things you need to find from the bridal shop, before you even look at your first gown. Do you need to make an appointment to visit the shop? Does the store carry dresses you can afford? Can you browse the whole collection, or do you only get to see the dresses the salesperson chooses for you? If this shop doesn't carry the dress you love, can it be ordered?

Once these questions have been answered and you find a dress or two that you like, there are still more questions you need to ask.
  • Can a particular dress be ordered with different sleeves, or neckline?
  • What alterations can be done and what will that cost?
  • Can you get a written estimate on the alterations?
  • If we order the bridesmaids dresses here, can we get a discount or free alterations?
  • Do you have headpieces and or veils that will go with my dress?
  • How much is the deposit and when is the balance due?
  • What are the cancellation and refund policies?
  • Can we get a rush on this dress if necessary?

  • Your Wedding Gown is probably the most important dress you will ever wear and you will find that everyone has an idea about what makes the perfect wedding dress. Don't be bullied by other peoples' opinions: this is the one day when you can be as demure or as outrageous as you wish. Everyone will be on your side on the day anyway; just as everyone loves a new born, they will coo and simper at whatever you choose! So, put your hang-ups away and stop listening to other people's ideas of what constitutes a beautiful dress, ignore disparaging comments about Meringues, Bo-Peep and Ice Queens, and consider what you like and see if it will suit you. You will know when you find it - it will just feel fabulous.

As you go on your quest for the perfect dress, prepare by asking yourself a few questions:
  • What do you want to emphasize, and what do you want to hide?
  • Which tones suit your coloring? Think about your current wardrobe - do you feel great in white, or do you prefer creamier colors?
  • Do you want to look shorter or taller?
  • Do you want a plain and unadorned look, or an elaborately decorated look, or somewhere in between?
  • Would you prefer a Contemporary look, a Vintage look (e.g. 1960s) or a Medieval look?

    6. Wedding Dress Budgeting

First thing you should do ‘before’ buying a wedding dress is to budget for your wedding dress cost. Even though the average cost of a wedding dress is estimated to be about $1300.00 in the US, this price may not be within your budget. Fortunately... there are wedding dress designers who make dresses for every price point. What are the advantages and disadvantages of bridal gowns for each price point? "Based on my experiences in altering wedding dresses, you need to know the answer to this question. Why? To save yourself time, money and frustration. "Some brides I've fitted didn't’t notice problems with their dresses until they were being fitted for alterations. They saw wrinkles and puckers that could not be fitted out. Why not? The wrinkles were a result of poor construction methods and/or poor fabric quality.” Most brides don't know what is considered a well made gown. Because of this fact... some brides experience disappointment at their first gown fitting. Why? They found that their bridal gown didn't look or fit like they expected. This happens more to brides who buy gowns in the lower price range. Now I'm not saying all gowns in the lower price range are of poor quality. And of course, not all high end wedding gowns are well made. That's why you need knowledge of what is well made and what is not. There are some designers in the low price range whose gowns are a "great value." You just have to know what to look for. "And that's what I am going to help you with!" "The thing to remember is that quality fabric and construction creates the perfect wedding dress." "It's not the design alone!" .

Low End Priced "Affordable" Wedding Dresses.

Wedding dresses in this price range sell for less than $600.00. In this range you will find machine stitched gowns in synthetic fabrics. These fabrics tend to be of a ‘lesser quality’ than gowns in the other price ranges. From my experience, gowns in this price range have minimal construction details. I am referring to things like underlinings, boning and other supports. Usually the manufacturer cut back on these items to cut costs. These supports are more important for strapless style wedding dresses than other dress styles. Boning and underlining help to hold the bodice of the dress up. It also produces a smooth appearance and comfortable fit in this area. Lack of boning and underlining will show more crinkling and wrinkles in the fabric of your wedding dress. Another consideration is . . . If your body is not very toned . . . you will find that you need to wear a good supporting bra and shapewear garments. Otherwise, you will see bulges in your wedding dress because of having minimal structure. .
    .
The good news is . . . You can find ‘good quality’ wedding dresses in this price category. You just need to look for designers who use 'better fabrics' and have more structure in their dresses. If you take these tips into consideration when trying on dresses . . . you will less likely be disappointed later in the way your wedding dress fits you.

    Mid Range Priced Wedding Dresses

Wedding dress in this range cost approximately any where from $600.00 to around $2000.00. Even though most of the fabrics used for these gowns are made with synthetic fibers, the quality of the fabric is a better grade than that in the low end wedding dress. The fabric used -- even though it is denser-- drapes well and not as stiff. You will find a few bridal dresses made with silk fabric at the higher end of this price range. The bead work on the gowns is usually sewn on better than in the low end wedding dresses. The construction in this range meets higher standards. You will find more boning used in the bodice. Seams are finished off even if it has a lining. The lining and the outer fabric will be partially or fully underlined for stability. All of this gives your gown fabric a smoother appearance. Quite a few gowns include a built in bustier, a petticoat built into the dress and waist stays for added support and comfort. Make sure your wedding dress have these components inside, especially when buying a strapless wedding dress.

Prices For High End Wedding Dresses.

The ‘best quality’ well made wedding dresses are in this category... top notch! Wedding gowns in this price range begin about the $2000.00 range to $5000.00 and go up. This level you will still find dresses made in a top quality synthetic fabric, but they will have a noticeably 'nice feel and drape' to the fabric. But by and large . . . this is the price level where you will find more “silk wedding gowns.” Seams are finished off. Every effort is made to make sure your wedding dress look as good inside as it does on the outside. Also, these are the most feel comfortable dresses to wear because of the extra support measures taken when constructing the gown. You will find the best construction methods used. The dress may be fully underlined. Have boning stays on the outer dress fabric, the lining, as well as the inner bustier. Waistline stays will be in the dress to keep it from sliding. You will see more custom details and more hand detailing. Most couture wedding dress designers bridal gowns fall into this category. -When shopping take a look at a few high end wedding gowns. Note the construction detail and fabrics. Try one on to see how a better made wedding gown feels. Knowing what quality construction details look and feel like ... will help you when choosing a gown in the lower price range. You will readily be able recognize a bargain when you see one...

Why you need to consider these costs before going wedding dress shopping.

If you don’t budget for the costs first . . . you may be tempted to overspend on your dress” which can eat into your budget. You will then find yourself coming up short and having to omit other items needed for your wedding. Since you are a busy bride, having your wedding dress budget including the accessories and alterations figured out ahead of time, will help you stay on course. Don’t forget to add in your wedding gown accessories cost. Click here to learn how to budget for these items. Also your budget will need to include wedding alterations costs. “Follow these tips and you will find the perfect wedding dress that won’t break your budget!”
