No doubt, over the next few weeks or so, we will be inundated with World Cup memorabilia to tempt our jaded palettes into making a purchase. These speakers are at least functional as well as cashing in on the forthcoming football fun.
Don't be misled here - this set of speakers haven't been developed specifically for the World Cup. In fact what we have here is a pair of K1000 portable speakers that have been appropriately decorated with our national emblem in the form of a cross of St. George positioned above the word 'England'.
These speakers adopt a clamshell design. In the closed state the speakers measure 131 x 81 x 54mm (W x H x D) and expand to a width of 250mm when opened out. A soft carry pouch is provided for storing the speakers when in transit.
The speakers can be used with a variety of devices such as MP3 players or your iPod. A permanently attached lead, which fits into a channel on the left speaker, has a 3.5mm jack plug for attaching to the appropriate audio source. There is also a volume control, power switch and LED power indicator light positioned on the left speaker.
A choice of power options are available with this speaker set. You can use the supplied three AA batteries, which should give up to 22 hours of playing time, or the supplied USB lead for drawing power from a computer. A 6 volt AC/DC adapter could also be used but this is not supplied.
These speakers make use of dynamic active sound separation to simulate a stereo experience. While this method will not deceive Hi-Fi enthusiasts, it is quite acceptable for the majority of us when listening to our favourite music before, during and after the footy.
