Part of the vendor's "T1 in a box" product line, the XMTS is targeted to cable operators and enables them, in combination with receiving-end modems or gateways, to deliver T1 and Ethernet traffic over traditional HFC and now Metro-Ethernet infrastructure.

At the heart of the platform is the XMTS itself, a headend CMTS with the ability to concentrate 24 or 48 T1 (full or fractional) circuits; or 1 or 2 DS3 links and Ethernet (10/100) services for delivery to businesses over the HFC network. The XMTS is a modular chassis that supports the loading of up to communication modules; upstream modules support 6 channels per board while the downstream modules support 4 channels per board. Each channel can have different bandwidths, modulations, and symbol rates; and the vendor notes that more than 4,000 simultaneous voice calls can be carried through the unit.

On the receiving side of the transmission, the vendor offers their V3xx series of T1 modems; enabling the reception of the signal delivered through the HFC network by the business. The V3xx modems are offered in 1 or 2 T1 link flavors, with both additionally including a 100BaseT port for Ethernet service delivery. An additional V3xx feature is its automatic prioritization of TDM traffic over data using dedicated queues (committed and peak information rate queues for data services).

The vendor states that their technology is based on the DOCSIS standard. Management of the platform is via SNMP communications with the vendor's own NMS system, which features WebNMS, a Web-based diagnostics and reporting tool including both real-time and historical information (WebNMS can also push provisioning information to registered devices); and configuration and software upgrade tools. NMS runs on a Linux server with Apache.

New to the vendor's platform is the XMTS-TE, an Ethernet flavored headend T1 CMTS that provides the ability to encapsulate T1 circuits into Ethernet frames for delivery of T1 services over metro or regional Ethernet networks. The XMTS-TE works in conjunction with the vendor's V510 TDM/Ethernet Gateway, which receives these Ethernet transmissions and translates the encapsulated T1 streams back into native TDM for forwarding.
